Forever: for all future time; for always; continually; lasting or permanently.

Greek: aion [ahee-ohn’]: ever [71, world [38], never+G3363+G1519+G3588: evermore [4], age [2], eternal [2]. properly an age; by extension perpetuity (also past); by implication the world; specially (Jewish) a Messianic period (present or future): - age, course, eternal, (for) ever (-more), [n-]ever, (beginning of the, while the) world (began, without end). Strong's Talking Greek & Hebrew Dictionary.

The word that is central here is Advocate. This is defined as a person who publicly supports a particular cause or policy; a person who pleads on someone else’s behalf; a leader in a court of law, a lawyer. I like the way Jesus spoke to these men and the comfort that ultimately came to them. Jesus had been with them for 3.5 years and they had become close and when Jesus went to the cross the Apostles were lonely and afraid. Does this sound familiar to you. Have you ever been lonely and afraid and not knowing what tomorrow might bring. It could be a bill that is due, and you don’t have the funds, or a doctor’s appointment that is based on all you read and hear may not prove to be good or maybe a relationship that has gone sour and you don’t have the wisdom or the words to address it.

That can be a lonely spot. But I am telling you how JESUS was trying to comfort His friends. Look, you guys, I am leaving you the Holy Spirit who is just like Me, and He will lead you, guide you, comfort you but the main thing is He will NEVER leave you or forsake you but will be with you even until the end of the earth. He is right there with you constantly trying to get His plan for your life through to you. Telling you constantly Jeremiah 29:11 (NIV) For I know the plans I have for you," declares the LORD, "plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future [an expected end].

Simon and Garfunkel sang a song many years ago entitled, “50 ways to leave your lover”. It was a bit of a sad song in that it was a relationship gone wrong. Well, God is quite different than the world for He gives us 50 ways to be on top and not underneath. Now that is good news. Never ever in the heart of God does he have anything but great things to say about you to the Father, it is simply our job to walk it out and not get off the ‘beaten path’. We must enter that rest that allows Him to do the work for us so that there is no mistakes and no failures. Rest does not represent doing nothing like sitting around on a couch. Rest represents the knowing in your heart that the Holy Spirit is helping and counseling you to go this way or that way and to know the right thing to do.

Sometimes that comes by faith but isn’t that the thing that pleases the Father. Hebrews 11:6 (NKJV) But without faith it is impossible to please Him, for he who comes to God must believe that He is, and that He is a rewarder of those who diligently [earnestly and sincerely] seek Him. So, the whole thing is summed up in the idea of seeking Him and everything else will work out. He gave us the Holy Spirit to seal the deal.
