Today's Bible Verse

But we have this treasure in earthen vessels, that the excellency of the power may be of God, and not of us.

2 Corinthians 4:7

The Bible From Heaven

God has been pleased to communicate His truth to the world by human agencies, and He Himself, by His Holy Spirit, qualified men and enabled them to do this work. He guided the mind in the selection of what to speak and what to write. The treasure was intrusted to earthen vessels, yet it is, none the less, from Heaven.... The obedient, believing child of God beholds in it [the testimony of God] the glory of a divine power, full of grace and truth.

The writers of the Bible had to express their ideas in human language. It was written by human men. These men were inspired of the Holy Spirit. Because of the imperfections of human understanding of language, or the perversity of the human mind, ingenious in evading truth, many read and understand the Bible to please themselves. It is not that the difficulty is in the Bible

The Scriptures were given to men, not in a continuous chain of unbroken utterances, but piece by piece through successive generations, as God in His providence saw a fitting opportunity to impress man at sundry times and divers places. Men wrote as they were moved upon by the Holy Ghost....

There is not always perfect order or apparent unity in the Scriptures.... The truths of the Bible are as pearls hidden. They must be searched, dug out by painstaking effort. Those who take only a surface view of the Scriptures will, with their superficial knowledge, which they think is very deep, talk of the contradictions of the Bible, and question the authority of the Scriptures. But those whose hearts are in harmony with truth and duty will search the Scriptures with a heart prepared to receive divine impressions. The illuminated soul sees a spiritual unity, one grand golden thread running through the whole, but it requires patience, thought, and prayer to trace out the precious golden thread.

My friend, the Bible is from God and as such is His words to us that we may be brought into a closer and closer relationship with Him.  As we daily study the scripture, guided by the Holy Spirit, our minds will be brought into connection with the Divine.  As we are thus brought into connection with God, we will be daily transformed into His image.  The closer we are to Him the more we will understand the words that He has sent through the Scriptures.

We must search the Scriptures as for buried treasure, diligently seeking for gems of knowledge that will give us a clearer understanding of the will of God.  How many today are studying the Scriptures in this way.  Many in the world and in the church only have a superficial knowledge of the word of God.  They skim through the pages and only scratch the surface of what is contained in them and are satisfied.  Because of worldliness they are satisfied that they know the Bible, but in fact are ignorant of it.

Those who are only surface readers of Scripture are in a dangerous condition for they do not see their true standing before God.  They have a form of godliness but they lack the power of God in their lives.  They deceive themselves into believing that they are in Christ because they read the Bible, but it does not work true repentance in their hearts.  Those who only have a surface understanding of the Bible, when trial and test come, will find it hard to give reasons for their faith and will easily become confused by the sophistries of the devil.

My friend, we must have a through understanding of the word of God that we may be firmly grounded in the truth.  In the last days we will need to have a faith that will sustain us though fire be brought down from Heaven to deceive us.  Jesus said in Matthew 24:4 "Take heed that no one deceives you."  Deception is the primary weapon of Satan and the Scriptures are our only defense against them.  A thus sayeth the Lord should be our defense against the sophistries of the devil.

May you daily search though the word of God today that you may be transformed and sustained by it, and that you may be prepared to stand firm for God in the trying times to come.

God Bless,
