The kids at Midweek Meetup have recently spent some time considering the gift of God’s good Creation.

We hope you enjoy the video we made in honor of Earth Day!

Volunteer During Family Promise Week

Please sign up to host dinner, an overnight, or both beginning Sunday, May 12 and continuing through the Saturday, May 18 overnight. We also seek volunteers to set up for our Family Promise guests and clean up as they depart.

We have a Q&A page on the website where prospective volunteers may learn more about Family Promise and what volunteering entails. Questions welcomed in the church office (847-256-3010 | office@fpcw.org).

Attend Men's Council on Saturday

Men's Council gathers for breakfast and a program at 8:00 am on Saturdays through May 11 in the Wallace Moore Fellowship Center. Contact Steve Polkoff with questions (odyssey1516@gmail.com).

Learn About Redlining and Advocate for Change on Saturday, April 27

The Racial Justice Committee encourages you to take part in Walk/Roll the Redline on Saturday, April 27 starting at 2:00 pm in Evanston’s Twiggs Park (1901 Simpson Street). Sponsored by Open Communities, the event will heighten awareness, inspire activism, and raise funds for housing justice on the North Shore. Participants will walk or roll through Evanston’s Fifth Ward, a historically redlined community, and come to better understand the continued effects of discriminatory housing practices. Register at no cost and learn more online at the Open Communities website.

Join Adult Faith Formation on Sunday

A series of weekly participant-led discussions will continue on Sunday, April 28 at 8:45 am in the Church Lounge. At each gathering, the group discusses chapters and themes from Grounded: Finding God in the World by Diana Butler-Bass. Contact the church office with questions or to begin receiving weekly email updates and optional readings.

Attend the Book Group in May

The Book Group welcomes new and continuing members to a discussion of Ilyan Woo's Master Slave Husband Wife: An Epic Journey from Slavery to Freedom, the true story of a married couple who escaped slavery, fled the South, and joined with abolitionists in the United States, United Kingdom, and Africa. The meeting, on Wednesday, May 15 at 7:00 pm, will occur in the Church Lounge. Contact Joyce Knauff (joyce@jckassociates.com) for more information.

Look for Our New Playground Structures this Spring

In the coming days, thanks to the generosity of a gift from the Lyon Family Foundation, we will replace two structures on the church playground. The Playground Task Force, formed with Session's approval and the Buildings & Grounds Committee's support, recommended a design Session approved during its April meeting. Rainbow Play will install the structures soon; we will dedicate them later this spring. The improvements will insure that our playground continues to provide members, neighbors, and friends with a welcoming place for enjoying the beauty of God's creation. Our thanks to the Lyon family and the task force members: Carl Brown, Campbell Boaz, Anna Shannahan, and Mark SooHoo.

Seeking a Director of Church and Community Engagement

We are looking for candidates for a new position on our church staff! The new Director of Church and Community Engagement will focus on connecting our current and prospective members with opportunities to engage more deeply in the life of our church. As we ramp up our church’s activities, such as mission, community events, and faith formation, the Pastors regularly get asked by the leaders of these activities to help find interested members, and, likewise, members frequently ask how they can become more engaged. This paid, part-time position, reporting to Pastor Kara, will work with our staff and committees to help connect our new and prospective members with opportunities for fellowship and deeper involvement. The funding for this position is in the church budget because we chose not to backfill Scott McElhenie’s role when he left last May. The role is open to members and non members. If you know someone who would be interested or have any questions, please send an email to office@fpcw.org

This Week, Please Remember To...

Sign up to provide funds for Chancel flowers on the poster in the Narthex. An announcement will appear in the Sunday Bulletin acknowledging your gift and naming a person you wish to

honor, celebrate, or remember.
