The Big Blind Friday Ep. 59

Your weekly dose of magic from around the world, from BBM

Hey Owen,

You definitely know how to perform The Top Change. It's one of the Classics, right there next to The Classic Pass, The Top Palm or The Erdnase Change.

But, did you know there's other variations of The Top Change which are UBER COOL and SUPER USEFUL for every magician, that almost no one has heard of?

How about learning 7 of them for FREE? RIGHT NOW.

Biz went through almost 200 years of Top Change history and has put together an article about The Top Change as well as a new YouTube video.

If you're hearing about this for the first time, this video is part of an ongoing series that we're doing where we're putting out more content for people on Youtube that wish to learn card magic from professionals.

And, as every Friday, we have a bunch of news from around the world, so let's get right into them!

🎙️ 1. CGI vs Magic Trick

Jack Rhodes is at it again.

This video is packed with so much goodness. From a performance being done in reverse (so that it looks natural) to not being able to tell what is CGI and what is not, this clip is highly entertaining for any card magician.

🎮 2. Being a Woman in Magic May be the Hardest Trick of All

"Only about 8 percent of stage magicians are women. A new generation of performers wants to change that."

A great look into the world of women as the performing magician on stage as well as interviews with several good performers that you might have heard of.

🪄 3. A novel stimulus collection to induce epistemic emotions

"...a collection of 166 short magic trick video clips that aim to induce a variety of epistemic emotions."

I love love love when colleges make studies with the help of magicians / magic tricks. 3 students from a college from Tokyo had people watch magic tricks in order to study their emotions during them.

It also incluides a list of effects and how people reacted to them.

For anyone who enjoys science papers

📚 4. Dynamo Is Dead

"World renowned magician Dynamo is set to be killed by his creator as the finale to a jaw-dropping two-hour special."

If you haven't heard, Dynamo is preparing a new special (after quite a hiatus). I met up with Dynamo at Cardistry Con London where he was filming with Peter Turner and Nicholas Lawrence a mindblowing TnR card effect, and he showed me parts from his special (it's good good).

🃏 5. Kickstarter Highlight: Plague Doctor Cards

Leave it to the Koreans to always come up with some super awesome way to print a deck of cards.

I really really love this book cover style tuck case that they have going on over here. What do you think about it?

Also, the cards are super sweet.

Springboard - Spectator Reads YOUR Mind eBook

Springboard is Michael Murray's revolutionary new system for allowing your SPECTATOR to read minds! Imagine for a moment that you are thinking of a card.

The spectator creates a card in their mind, never mentioning any color, suit or value. Their choice is real. You name the card that you were thinking of and they freak out. Put simply they have just read your mind.

Imagine the reactions from your spectators when they are able to identify cards which you have handed them sight unseen. Imagine performing a super clean version of Paul Vigils “Diplopia” effect where your thought of card is placed on the table from the word go.

Imagine performing the “Invisible Deck” whereby the card is revealed without the need to know the identity of the spectators card.

Points to remember: Easy to do. No memory work. No preparation needed. The spectators choices are genuine. Perform with a borrowed deck which need not be complete. The spectator never reveals, colors, suits or values until after you reveal your thoughts. Also includes additional thoughts on applying this to non card related items.
