DVLC Friday Fun Night: A Night of Learning, Laughter,
and Popcorn Delights

On Friday, August 4, 2023, the Good Shepherd Lutheran Church's Fellowship Hall transformed into a hub of excitement and camaraderie as it played host to the much-anticipated "DVLC Friday Fun Night." Attended by members of the DVLC (Diablo Valley Literacy Council) partners in learning, along with their friends and family, including friends from the Good Shepherd congregation, this event promised an evening of fun, fellowship, and, of course, a popcorn extravaganza.
The Fellowship Hall was the perfect venue for this first of hopefully many “Friday Fun Nights”. Its spacious and welcoming atmosphere set the stage for an evening filled with laughter and learning. Through games, such as “Find a Friend” Bingo and Apples to Apples, we passed the time simply enjoying each other’s company and providing an ideal space for English learners still gaining their confidence.

One of the highlights of the evening was the delightful refreshment spread. Attendees had a variety of refreshments to choose from, but the star of the show was undoubtedly the fresh popcorn bar. This wasn't just your ordinary popcorn; it was a popcorn lover's dream come true. With a variety of interesting seasonings to choose from, attendees could customize their popcorn to their heart's content: Butter Salt, Ranch, Cheese, Garlic, Furikake, Everything But the Bagel, etc.

As attendees indulged in these delectable treats, they engaged in lively conversations and caught up with friends old and new. A few were enjoying the coming evening outside, where the grassy area had a variety of lawn games. A movie was planned but the lighting was not cooperating. Hopefully, a future date will have an outdoor movie night as part of the event.
The "DVLC Friday Fun Night" was a wonderful inaugural event. With an eye towards hosting similar social events once a quarter, we have our next DVLC event scheduled for Saturday, December 2nd.

Good Report!
Kudos to Bridget Delaney-Messana’s student, Maryam and her husband, also a DVLC tutee, who have passed the citizenship test. Much diligent work went into this major accomplishment on the part of the tutors and the students.

Please Return Unused Books to the DVLC Library
Please return DVLC books that you are no longer using so that we can keep our library stocked and avoid the need to purchase more books. The Laubach, Side by Side and Azar books are in demand!
Books are usually returned to the self-service library at the Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, however, through the end of the year, you can return them to our Librarian, Mary Nash.
Please contact her at: mpnash@aol.com. or (925) 323-1877 to make arrangements. Thank you.
