Road work

The Contractor worked to remove the surface level of the roadway. This will be resurfaced closer to the end of the project.

Streetlights

Streetlights were delivered to run along the new streetscape, matching the newer light standards that have been rolling out along 2nd Avenue East. The difference is that the 2nd Avenue light standards are mounted to the foundation installed during the "Big Dig," and these ones come with the foundation already attached.

Gateway Column

The design calls for a 4 to 6m high gateway column at the entrance to the new streetscape. Like the light standards, it requires a foundation. This foundation was created using a 42 inch sonotube.

Fun Fact:

A hydrovac is a piece of equipment used to handle the process of vacuum excavation, which involves sucking up the resulting slurry to allow easy and safe access to the underground utilities

Hydrovac operators use high-pressure water wands to cut through the soil and soften the ground. Next, they suction the mud slurry into the tank of an excavation truck, at which point crews can uncover a deeper layer of soil and any existing underground facility networks.
