DRNY FILES CLASS ACTION LAWSUIT

PRELIMINARY INJUNCTION & A TEMPORARY RESTRAINING ORDER AGAINST NASSAU COUNTY

August 22, 2024 – Albany NY: DRNY filed a Class Action Lawsuit, Preliminary Injunction and a Temporary Restraining Order in United States District Court Eastern District Court of New York against Nassau County and Nassau County Executive Bruce Blakeman, in his official capacity.

DRNY is challenging Nassau County’s Mask Transparency Act, that bans wearing face masks in public. This law discriminates against people with disabilities and violates the United States Constitution, the Americans with Disabilities Act, Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act and New York State Legislative Intent.

We are seeking a Temporary Restraining Order and Preliminary Injunction to immediately stop the enforcement of the Mask Ban in Nassau County.

“This mask ban poses a direct threat to public health and discriminates against people with disabilities.” said Timothy A. Clune, Executive Director of DRNY.
