Good Morning Fellow Democrats:
Since the Presidential Debate of June 27th, there has been a major split within the Democratic Party, with a growing number of prominent Democrats, each echoed a hundred times over by a media hungry to make headlines out of everything, calling for President Biden to step aside and “pass the torch” to a new generation of Democrats. Meanwhile, many Democrats believed that Joe Biden, despite his lack of oratorical skills, offered us our best chance of saving American democracy by keeping the man who admits that he wants dictatorial power OUT of the White House. Well, that split no longer exists. Biden has announced that he’s withdrawing from the race and recommending Vice President Kamala Harris as his replacement at the top of the ticket.
Whichever side of the “stay or withdraw” controversy any of us may have been on last week, the controversy is now gone. It’s time to move on as a unified Democratic Party. Vice President Harris has to be considered to be the frontrunner in the selection process as our party chooses the person to lead the ticket this November, for several reasons.
First, her name is on the bank accounts, along with Biden’s, that hold the campaign money that’s already been donated. Anybody else would have to start over at zero.
Additionally, there are several states where the filing deadline for getting on the ballot will pass before the Democratic Party’s convention. As it stands, it will take some work by the DNC lawyers to get the filings in states where the names of the “presumptive nominees” have been allowed to be changed from Biden/Harris to Harris/Somebody, but it would take far more work to get a whole new ticket placed on those states’ ballots.
Assuming Vice President Harris becomes the nominee, it will likely be a few weeks until we know who the Vice-Presidential candidate will be, but once we know the name, we will need to move fast and work hard to see to it that New Mexico doesn’t fall into the “red” column for the first time in twenty years and the second time in 36 years. The DPTC will do everything it can to help our nominees, as well as our local and federal candidates, but we will be needing all the help that we can get from a new batch of volunteers as we move forward.
It's time for people to step up! Our democracy is on the line. We MUST defeat Donald Trump! We MUST keep Project 2025 from replacing the Constitution as the governing document of the United States of America! Contact any of the DPTC officers to volunteer.
Stand UP! Push Back! GET INVOLVED!
