Good Morning Democrats,
For those who were unable to join us for our DPTC Post-Primary Convention on Saturday, you missed a good event. The highlight of the meeting was an informal chat with New Mexico Senator Liz Stefanics, who updated us on plans for the upcoming Special Session and got our input on our views on the issues at hand. It was a timely reminder that some of our legislators, like Senator Stefanics, go to the Roundhouse to represent us and our views, while others simply go there to serve their own personal interests with no real desire to find out what their constituents think.
The November election seems to be such a long way off ... a little less than five months away ... but time will go by quickly and Election Day will be here before we know it. Locally, Torrance County Democrats will have no voice for any of the positions in county government, since we were unable to field any candidates to run in the primary for County Commission District 3 Commissioner or any of the county-wide positions.
Going down the ballot from the top, our nominee for President will be Joe Biden, Martin Heinrich for US Senator and Melanie Stansbury for US Representative. New Mexico leans decidedly blue, but that doesn’t mean that any of those three races are a cake walk for our candidates. They need our votes and visible support. In the races for the NM legislature, Senator Stefanics and Anita Gonzales are unopposed in the General Election, but Bill Scott and Fred Ponzlov have uphill battles for Senate District 19 and House District 22, respectively.
The DPTC will do what it can to help our candidates by having our office in Moriarty open again, starting tomorrow. We’ll be open each Tuesday from noon to 4 PM and will resume Saturday hours beginning June 29th. We’ll have yard signs and literature for candidates as the material gets provided by the campaigns. We need to get Democrats across the county visibly involved. It’s time to ...
STAND UP!
PUSH BACK!
VOTE!

LGBTQ Pride Month traces its roots back to the 1969 Stonewall riots, which started on June 28, 1969. The first Pride marches started the following year, on June 28, 1970, to commemorate the multiday riots, and these one-day celebrations eventually evolved into a full month of LGBTQ pride.
Our very own Augustine Montoya, Chair of Ward A and former DPTC Chair, is the current DPNM LGBTQIA+ Caucus Chair. The Caucus had a float in the ABQ Pride Parade this past Saturday. Sam Schropp, current County Commissioner from District 3 pulled the float. Thank you for a great representation from the Democratic Party of Torrance County. nmlgbtqiacaucus.com
