Good morning, Democrats!
Today is Labor Day, a day when most Americans think only about the countless hamburgers and hot dogs that will be grilled this afternoon, completely forgetting about the nameless workers who organized to form the labor unions that ultimately gave millions of workers a 5-day, 40-hour, work week with holiday weekends like this one. Their struggles, and in many cases their deaths, need to be remembered.
But here, in Torrance County, we need to pay respect to another group who labor daily, without the benefits achieved by those in organized labor. That group doesn’t get paid vacations, long weekends, sick days or the other niceties that many Americans enjoy without even thinking about the struggles of those who came before them. Small independent farmers and ranchers labor from sunup to sundown, and often well into the night, seven days a week with no time off. Their livestock and crops need to be tended to every day. Their efforts need to be recognized as well, because our agricultural base is the backbone of America’s food chain.
Enjoy your backyard barbeques, but recognize the source of that food, as well as the extra time off that so many of enjoy.

Good morning, Team Blue!
November 5th is going to be upon us soon. Sixty-five days until the most important election of our lifetimes. I’ve said it many times, but it bears repeating, democracy is on the line. It is clear that the country is tired of the hate-filled rhetoric and the “me, me, me” attitude of the former president and current convicted felon. We have momentum but as we found out in 2016, that can change rapidly. We can’t get complacent. We must get voter turnout. We must maintain momentum and make sure everyone we know turns out to vote.
