Democratic Party of Torrance County Newsletter

Good Morning Fellow Democrats:

What a convention!!! The Democratic National Convention was fantastic. Speaker after speaker – just got better each time – whether it was a Democrat or – yes, a Republican – speaking. And to top it off, how about President Obama and Michelle Obama, President Clinton, and then Tim Walz and Vice-President Harris. If you weren’t jazzed by those speeches, then check for a pulse. I, for one, enjoyed our Governor Michelle and Secretary Deb Haaland’s speeches. They knocked it out of the park. The number of people that came up to our booth at the Sunflower Festival on Saturday who were fired up about the convention and who expressed gratitude that we were there and fighting back was amazing. It truly inspired those of us working at the booth to work hard to maintain that enthusiasm.

As for the Republican speakers, it's gratifying to know that many good Republicans haven’t joined the cult.  If you get the chance, listen to Adam Kinzinger’s speech a couple more times prior to the election. It was directly on point regarding the former president’s lack of patriotism and attempts to destroy democracy in our country.

I could go on and on about the various speakers and their messages but here are a few of my favorite zingers from the various speeches:

  •   “we” is more powerful than “me”
  •  He suffocated the soul of the Republican Party
  •  Put our country first
  • A perpetrator who pretends to be a victim
  • A small man trying to be big
  •  A weak man trying to be strong
  •  Summon the courage to stand up to a weak man
  • When we fight, we win

These are just a few of the many great quotes from the speakers. I’m sure you can cite many others that were your favorites.

What is clear is that we have candidates who will stand up to bullies – who refuse to be bullied – and who will not stoop to the school-ground name-calling that the immature former president always resorts to.

Let’s keep the mojo going. Only 72 days left until the most crucial election of our lifetimes.

As a footnote, just when you thought the competition couldn’t get any weirder, RFK, Jr. joined the cult. You can draw the line as to your choice of Weird, Weirder, and Weirdest between the three. I see it as pretty much a toss-up. Just saying.

STAND UP! PUSH BACK! VOTE!
