Democratic Party of Torrance County Newsletter

June 24, 2024

Good Morning Democrats,

In Pennsylvania, somebody has erected four full-sized billboards on one particular major highway, each with Trump’s image accompanied by one word. They used four “C” words, specifically “Coward”, “Corrupt”, “Convict” and “Crazy”, each in letters several feet high. Although there are many other anti-Trump signs posted at various locations throughout that state, those specific four billboard appear along the Northeast Extension of the Pennsylvania Turnpike. Since that stretch of interstate highway is only 132 miles long, that averages exactly one sign every 33 miles.

Here in New Mexico, we have a total of 998 miles of interstate highways (I-10, I-25 and I-40 combined). In order to achieve the same level of saturation as that stretch of highway in Pennsylvania, we would need to put 31 such signs. Obviously, if we were to stay within Pennsylvania’s concept of using a unique “C” word on each sign, we would need 27 additional words, on top of the four being used by our friends in Pennsylvania. Personally, I can’t think of 27 words that fit the bill, although I can offer a few suggestions.

How about: “Clown”; “Cold-hearted”; “Chauvinist”; “Criminal”; “Crude”; “Close-minded”; “Callous”; “Crybaby”; “Crass”; “Condescending”; “Cruel”; “Childish”; “Conceited”; “Clueless”; “Contemptible”; “Craven”; and “Calamity”?

Sorry, but my vocabulary runs out of steam short of the mark of 27 fitting pejoratives by 10. Of course, if we allowed words that start with other letters of the alphabet, the list could be almost endless. “Adulterer”, “Pendejo”, “Groper”, “Womanizer” and “Idiot” come to mind immediately, but there must be hundreds of other traits that will become clearly visible to anyone with a brain when Trump tries to debate Biden this Thursday evening. My guess is that Trump will be in rare form that night, making a fool of himself dozens of times. It should be “Must Watch TV”.

By the way, Biden/Harris yards signs are in, and can be picked up at our office in the Route 66 Shopping Center in Moriarty starting tomorrow. We are requesting a minimum donation of $5/sign to help defray the cost, since they were not free for us.

It's time to . . .

LGBTQ Pride Month traces its roots back to the 1969 Stonewall riots, which started on June 28, 1969. The first Pride marches started the following year, on June 28, 1970, to commemorate the multiday riots, and these one-day celebrations eventually evolved into a full month of LGBTQ pride.
