No one I know dreams of doing the cleaning.

Or, if they do, they’re having a nightmare. Some people have small regular cleaning chores they do on a daily basis with some heavier duty chores thrown in once a week. To help people who do this keep track, I created a very handy weekly house cleaning checklist.

Maybe you prefer to do some cleaning chores just once a year. Is Spring Cleaning on your radar? Do you dedicate a month to cleaning everything in your home? Maybe, you dedicate this month to doing extra cleaning like washing the windows, window screens, ceiling fans, outdoor furniture, and other things like that.

What if there was an easier way to ensure that everything in your home was thoroughly cleaned at least once during the year? Would you be open to trying it out?

My friend and business partner in the business we created together, Release Repurpose Reorganize, Jonda Beattie, has developed The Zone Plan. Every month she cleans one zone in her home. By the end of the year every zone in her home has been thoroughly cleaned. So, there’s no need to scurry around in April trying to clean her entire home.

How does it work? Jonda assigns each zone in her home to a specific month. When that month comes around, she thoroughly cleans that zone – windows, blinds, fans, polishes furniture, and so on. She does this little by little over the course of the month.

What Zone is Jonda working on this month? Main bedroom and closet

Register for the Clear Space for You virtual organizing group.

Assign a Zone of your choosing or pick a different project to tackle. Diane is working on organizing email folders this month.

This group meets on Zoom once a week. You decide if you want to meet on Mondays at noon (EDT) or Thursday evenings at 7pm (EDT).

New groups begin on Thursday, April 4th or Monday, April 8th.

Another way to organize your home little by little is to use the deck of cards: Organize Your Home 10 Minutes at a Time.

This deck of 50 activity cards gives step-by-step instructions to clean, tidy, and organize one small space in just 10 minutes. Imagine that!

All you do is pick a card, do the task, and you’re done! If you do just 1 card a day, every day, you will have clean and cleared 50 small areas in your home. Now that’s powerful!

It may be that you have a large project going on. If you do, you probably have important notes and ideas related specifically to that project. The journal we created, My List Simplified, has a place for you to track all this information.

Make notes in your journal (who to call/email/or contact; supplies to have on hand; what you want to work on next; notes regarding your progress)

Benji is a typical, active five-year-old little boy. He loves playing with all his toys in his room and sometimes creates a real mess! When his mother asks him to pick up his room, Benji is overwhelmed and doesn’t know how to begin. Benji’s mother helps him complete the job by breaking the project into small tasks that Benji is able to finish easily. Doing this teaches Benji how to get organized.

Basic principles of organizing included in this story:

  • Break projects down into small steps
  • Sort like with like

Filled Up & Overflowing was written to help you and your family members, friends, spouses, and loved ones find answers to questions and concerns about the safety and comfort of the “stuff” in their space.

Unlike other organizers and organizing books, this book is designed to support individuals who would prefer to work with professionals or loved ones who want to listen to them and discover their needs instead of being overwhelmed by the process – and the individual who genuinely wants to help.
