MAY 7

"When it comes to explaining

the Blessed Virgin Mary,

having a lot of love is more important

than having a lot of answers.

When we come up lacking,

she’ll make greater goods out of

our deficiencies, as only a mother can do.

Whenever we're humiliated and

shown our weakness, we should

get ready for something better

than we could ever plan

and prepare to accomplish.

Evangelize with joy, then,

and with confidence.

Know from the start that

you don’t have all the answersbut

your Savior does,

and He loves His mother.

He will give you everything you need,

even if sometimes you need to fail."

Dr. Scott Hahn

WHAT IS "EVANGELIZATION?"

The answer is found in the

Word on Fire Institute's

award-winning quarterly publication

exploring topics relevant

to the modern evangelist.

The Spring 2023 issue has three particularly interesting topics:

1. Exclusive new piece of fiction from Peter Kreeft

SPECIAL PRAYERS

OUR LADY OF FATIMA

The Blessed Virgin Mary

appeared in 1917

to three shepherd children

near Fatima, Portugal.

She spoke to them for several months,

culminating in a miraculous vision seen by thousands of witnesses, who were photographed during Mary's appearance.

Since then, she has been invoked

under the title of “Our Lady of Fatima,”

as well as “Our Lady of the Rosary.”

She is known for her powerful intercession,

especially for healing and strength to endure any trial.

O Most Holy Virgin Mary,

Queen of the most holy Rosary,

you were pleased to appear to the children of Fatima

and reveal a glorious message.

We implore you, inspire in our hearts a fervent love

for the recitation of the Rosary.

By meditating on the mysteries of the redemption

that are recalled therein may we obtain the

graces and virtues that we ask,

through the merits of Jesus Christ, our Lord and Redeemer.

Amen.

HUMOR HIGHLIGHT

CONFESSION

En route to church to make his first confession,

my nervous seven-year-old grandson

asked me what he could expect.

"Confession is where you tell all the bad things

you've done to the priest," I told him.

He looked relieved.

"Good. I haven't done anything bad to the priest."

GOSPEL READING REFLECTION

For May 7, 2023

FIFTH SUNDAY IN EASTER

Gospel: Jn 14:1-12

+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

THE COMMON PRIESTHOOD

  • Here Our Lord speaks some of the most consoling words ever, both to the Apostles

and to us.

  • He speaks as a person to persons who need friendship, love, true home, security, and life.

  • Christ has visibly left the world to prepare a mansion for us in heaven, and he will return for us and bring us to it.

  • “I am the way and the truth and the life.”
  • Nothing is more fundamental and precious than the fullness of life. Jesus Christ, being God, is that life, which he can give to us.
  • We need this to be true, and Jesus is the truth.
  • And we need to know the way to get this life, and Jesus is the way to it.

  • This mansion our Lord speaks of is not just a building which will be our hearts’ delight but it is first and foremost Christ himself.
  • This building will be built of “stone”: The cornerstone of Christ is “chosen and precious,” and the rest of the building will consist of us “living stones,” the redeemed.

ANSWER TO QUIZ

Since 1851, the Chaplet of St. Michael

has been a powerful way for Catholics...

To call on the protection of

the Prince of Angels

and the nine choirs.

St. Padre Pio recommended it to his spiritual children

to strengthen them in their suffering.

BOOK

RECOMMENDATION

We need to be armed for battle!

At all times, and especially during these crazy times in this vale of tears,

we need to lay our foundation in Christ Jesus.

Spiritual reading helps us build and strengthen that foundation.

Order though your favorite book dealer.

This week's recommendation is:

Little Talks With God

by  ST. CATHERINE OF SIENA

The first woman and first lay person to be named a Doctor of the Church,

while in an ecstatic trance, St. Catherine of Siena dictated The Dialogue.

In this intense and searching work, she offers petitions to God,

filling her conversation with instruction on:

Discernment

True and false spiritual emotion

Obedience and truth

...and revealing her famous image of Christ as the Bridge.

Catherine's brilliant insights into the spiritual life's nature

have motivated Christians for centuries

to unite

a life of prayer with a life of action.

Here are two famous insights:

"Eternal greatness!

You made yourself low and small to make mankind great."

* * *

"This have I told you, my sweetest daughter,

that you might know

the perfection of this union-producing state,

when the eye of the intellect is ravished

by the fire of my charity,

in which it receives supernatural light.

With this light

the souls in the state of union love me,

because love follows the intellect,

and the more it knows

the more it can love."

(From the book)

We pray you will be excited to embark on purposeful

spiritual reading as a way to build a more prayer-filled,

Christ centered life.
