Update to Guidelines on Eating and Drinking in Shared Spaces at ZSFG

These updates do not impact general mask guidelines which continue to be required in all campus buildings and for all patient care activities.

Starting 9/21, food and drinks are permitted when staff are present together in indoor, non-clinical areas, including conference rooms and break rooms. Staff will wear masks when not eating or drinking. For indoor rooms or spaces with a capacity greater than 50, maximum occupancy may not exceed 50% when food or drinks are being consumed.

If there is a local increase in cases (e.g. in a unit or department), restrictions may be required until cases decrease.

Announcements

This month is an opportunity for all of us to learn about and recognize the complexities, histories, and richness of the vastly diverse Latinx community, that spans across 3 continents and 20 countries.

For Latinx Heritage Month 2022, all members of UCSF are invited to join the collective of organizations & the MRC in participating in their virtual ofrenda (offering) by placing an object, image, and words to dedicate to a loved one. Please honor and respect this place. Throughout the month there are several events being hosted at UCSF and ZSFG to celebrate together.

UCSF-UCB Immunology Retreat

The DEM was well-represented at the first in-person joint UCSF-UC Berkeley Immunology retreat since 2019. There were 19 members of the DEM, and there were podium presentations by Sara Suliman, Peter Hunt, and Tyler-Marie Deveau (for Tim Henrich). In addition, Gonzalo Acevedo, Ingrid Wiggers, Alex Mohapatra, Lily Zemelko, Mikias Ilala, and Justine Levan presented posters that attracted a lot of interest and discussion. Stirring music by Peter Hunt and his ensemble livened up the Saturday evening poster session and reception. Besides the scientific discussions, there was ample time for walks on the Asilomar Beach, kayaking, hiking, soaking up sun, and making new friends.

Conference Room Unavailable for Lunch - 9/27 and 9/29

ZSFG teams will be meeting in the conference room on 9/27 (505A&B) and 9/29 (505A). The conference room will be unavailable for lunch during these times. Please plan accordingly.

Visitors are required to be fully vaccinated. If they are not they will be required to have a negative COVID test before entering any building on the ZSFG campus.

Staff are encouraged to obtain COVID testing if they have any symptoms, exposure or concerns regarding COVID. Staff can obtain COVID testing at the OHS employee testing tent in the parking lot by Avon Breast Center, Mon-Sun from 6:30am-4:30pm (no appointment required). As UCSF employees, you can also use the Color vending machine in Building 9.

The full and final report of the UCSF Task Force on Equity & Anti-Racism in Research is now available. As written in the July 2022 installment of Expresso, this important report includes the four key recommendations that UCSF will adopt now:

  1. establish a system of accountability on anti-racism and equity for the UCSF research enterprise,
  2. promote and support UCSF anti-racism scholarship
  3. create and support a more diverse UCSF research workforce, and
  4. promote and support community-engaged research.
