DCF Fall Event a Community Celebration!
The Dexter Community Fund’s Fall Event, held on October 26, was a wonderful community celebration! It was a fun evening to connect with friends and neighbors, and celebrate what makes Dexter a special place to live. A special thank you to Rob Ewing of Reinhart Realtors and Cindy Glahn of Real Estate One, who generously pledged a donation of $100 for every adult who attended the event. A full house of nearly 130 people attended.

Delicious appetizers and desserts were donated by Aubree’s, Busch’s, Cornman Farms, and Dexter’s Pub. Null Taphouse generously hosted the event and donated beer and wine.

During a brief program, Peter Feeney of the Chelsea Community Foundation had fun with the Dexter-Chelsea rivalry. “I’m so impressed with the early work of the Advisory Board! You are going to catch us in fund donations far before you catch us in football.” Feeney took a few minutes to describe how the CCF has impacted the community over the last 20 years.

Paul Cousins, affectionately known as “Mr. Dexter,” and Chris DeRuyver, DCF Advisory Committee member, encouraged those in attendance to consider making a donation or pledge to the DCF to help reach the goal of raising $2 million by 2020. As Julie Schumaker, DCF co-chair, explained “An endowment of $2 million means $80,000 in annual grants to the Dexter area. That is a big impact to our community and will create a legacy for all of us.”
Meet Our 2017 Grantees.
The Dexter Community Fund (DCF) Advisory Committee was pleased to award our first grants in 2017. Although the amount available to grant was small ($2,000), the Advisory Committee wanted to demonstrate the Fund’s purpose to meet community needs and enhance the quality of life for residents. Four $500 grants were made to the Dexter Area Historical Society (for the renovation of Gordon Hall), Faith in Action, the Dexter Senior Center, and His Eye is on the Sparrow.

In future years, as Fund assets grow, the DCF will support projects and non-profit organizations across a number of areas: arts and culture, education, youth, senior services, health and wellness, human services, community improvement, and the environment. Our goal is to raise $2 million in permanent endowment funds by 2020 which will allow the Fund to grant approximately $80,000 annually to meet community needs today and in the future.
Guenther Building Challenge Grant
Guenther Building Company/Guenther Homes has generously agreed to match up to $20,000 for new pledges of at least $1,000 made to the Dexter Community Fund by December 31, 2017. This challenge will help us towards reaching our goal of raising $2M by 2020. Sending a big shout of thanks to Guenther Homes for supporting our efforts! And it is not to late to donate. Visit www.aaacf.org/dexter  for more details.
