Detroit STRIVES is a professional development opportunity with one hour for college access topics and one hour on FAFSA strategy and completion. You can partake in the portion that is most relevant to you! This will be hosted every 2nd Thursday of the Month. For more information, contact Daniel Valentine, at dvalentine@detroitcan.org.

Skilled Trade Workshop Series

Do you need a better understanding of skilled trade opportunities?

Do you want to learn more about how to support students that are interested in trade programs?

This Skilled Trade Workshop Series is training for student-facing professionals to learn more about the Skilled Trades pathway. The Trade series will be hosted bi-weekly on Wednesday from 11-12 PM.

Workshop Schedule:

  • November 3, 2021: Debunking the Skill Trade Postsecondary Pathway: Perception vs. Reality
  • November 17, 2021: Skilled Trade: Pathways and Opportunities
  • December 1, 2021: Skilled Trade Program Student Credential Requirements
  • December 15, 2021: Skilled Trade: Cost and Pay Structures
  • February 17, 2022: Economy and Inequities *DCAN Lunch & Learn*

If you are interested in receiving more information on session topics and/or registration, register below. This opportunity is eligible for SCECH credits.

The 2021-2022 FAFSA is now open for the Class of 2022! Now more than ever, it is important for students and their guardians to apply for federal student aid.

As adults working with youth, it is so important to provide the resources students need to complete a new and sometimes complicated process. Make sure you check out the Department of Education's resource web page and check out DCAN's FAFSA toolkit!
ADVISEMI ACCEPTING APPLICATIONS FOR HOST SITES
MCAN is looking to engage new sites to increase college readiness and completion rates. If you are interested in pandemic relief advisers or college advisers in your school, please submit a proposal!

Opportunity 1: Pandemic Relief Support Advisers
Immediate opportunity to provide college advising to the class of 2022. College adviser to serve a full-time (40 hours/week) term that runs from January 2022 through August 2022

Opportunity 2: AdviseMI Partnerships 2022-2025
 Three-year partnership agreement with AdviseMI to provide consistent, dedicated college advising to seniors each year. College adviser to serve a full-time (40 hours/week) term that runs concurrent to the school year, beginning with August 2022 through June 2023, and running on the same schedule each year thereafter. dvisers

Virtual Event for Students and Parents!
ACT would like you to invite your students and their parents to join for a virtual college
and career planning event— My Journey: High School to College and Career. Students and parents can choose their own session to learn how to prepare for college and career—from finding scholarships to transitioning to life on campus and everything in between. This event is this Saturday, October 30th from 11-1:30 PM. Deadline to register is tomorrow, October 29th at 10 AM.
