At DACC, we are using Canvas as our Learning Management System (LMS). Canvas is a web-based learning management system that gives instructors, students, and guardians access to view and manage online course learning materials. Our staff has been working hard over the summer to implement Canvas and provide our students with the best educational experience possible.
Canvas provides more opportunities for parents and guardians to engage with teachers and view their students’ work. Canvas was chosen for our district because it is considered best-in-class and used by high schools, colleges, and businesses across the nation. Our students will be better prepared for work assigned to them in higher education and will be proficient in the workplace where Canvas is often used for onboarding and professional development.
At DACC, we use Powerschool to display student grades and attendance. Powerschool and Canvas provide two different services. Powerschool publishes grades and attendance when that information has been finalized and submitted by the instructor. Canvas provides an interactive view of what is currently being assigned and submitted in a given class.
Not every class or program will roll out Canvas at the same time. Each teacher will communicate directly with families when they can expect to start using Canvas. However, all teachers should be using Canvas with their students by the second semester. We appreciate your patience and understanding throughout this process, and we are excited to provide our students and families with this robust tool.
