We want to inform you about an upcoming event at Delaware Area Career Center aimed at promoting the safety and well-being of our students.
From January 16 - 22, DACC, in collaboration with HelpLine of Delaware and Morrow Counties, will be conducting suicide prevention and awareness training for students. The program, "Question. Persuade. Refer (QPR)," is evidence-based and focuses on equipping students with the knowledge to recognize signs of suicide risk in their peers. Additionally, it provides information on where to seek help when needed.
Our Student Services Department will also offer the "Say Something - Sandy Hook Promise" training. This program teaches students how to identify warning signs in individuals at risk of harming themselves or others and empowers them to speak up to a trusted adult.
In March 2021, the Ohio General Assembly passed House Bill 123, also known as the SAVE (Safety and Violence Education) Students Act. This legislation mandates that school districts provide evidence-based instruction on suicide prevention and awareness for grades 6-12.
During the 5 days in January, DACC students will participate in a single 45-minute training session scheduled during their lab time. Following each session, students will be given a brief questionnaire that will assist school professionals in identifying at-risk students and providing the necessary help and support.
If you prefer that your student does not participate in the suicide prevention and awareness training, please complete this form. DACC will provide a supervised area for students not participating.
Our top priority is ensuring the safety and well-being of our students, and we believe this training will help to foster a supportive and secure environment for everyone.
