DAAD Almuni Australia News

DAAD Alumni News and Announcements

DAAD Alumni Event July 2023

As part of the DAAD Alumni Association Australia’s Thought Leaders Program, the DAAD Alumni association hosted an exciting event and explored the very topical theme of “Disruptive technology and the importance of cross-functional teams and values” from the perspectives of three very different disciplines. It was a terrific and thought-provoking evening, and we very much enjoyed the lively post-presentation discussions amongst alumni, scholars, partners and industry representatives.

Thank you to our thought leaders for their presentations: Prof. Michael Thielscher on “Artificial General Intelligence, collaborative AI and humans”; DAAD Alumni Australia President Claudia Nelson on “Diversity & the importance of cross-functional teams” and Maren Goerdel on “Values as foundations of high-performing teams”. A big thank you to our special guests, Consul General Mr. Felix Schwarz and Goethe Institut Director Christoph Mücher, for their official welcomes to all DAAD alumni, friends and guests. Thank you also to Silke Schoppe and Michael Rieke for the ongoing support of the DAAD Australia office and Michiko Weinmann from the DAAD Alumni Executive Committee for lending a hand with the event organisation!

Celebrating our new DAAD Alumni Association Australia logo!

Created by Sydney-based graphic designer and art director Astrid Wehling, our new visual identity is characterised by bright and crisp colours to work with the Australian light, and also draws from the distinctive shape of the Australian continent. Combining these new design features with established characteristics like the well-known DAAD fonts and colours for the typography, the logo icon is easily recognisable and aims to communicate a dynamic image which captures the association's purpose and values, while also highlighting the Australian connection.

New DAAD Alumni event series and next event 29th September:

- kick-off a Leadership Workshop series with and for DAAD Alumni led by DAAD Alumni President with guest speakers from the DAAD Alumni circle and special guests

- this will be an interactive workshop series with the involvement of every participant.

- Our aim is to learn from each other and support each other by highlighting the importance of corporate culture, teams and values during times of economic challenges and technology disruption.

DAAD Letter Magazine - Language

Alles auf Anfang - Starting at the beginning

This edition reveals just how important language is in the DAAD’s work, and how DAAD alumnae and alumni are making important academic contributions to German studies and research fields such as multilingualism, minority languages and artificial intelligence.

Without exchange we couldn’t live in a community. It is language that enables us to communicate and interact with one another, language contains our cultural, historical and ecological knowledge, and language shapes our identity.

You can read the latest issue of 'Letter' in German here or in English here.

DAAD Disability and Chronic Illness Allowance International Students

Mobility with a disability/chronic illness

Students and researchers with disabilities or chronic illnesses often have many questions regarding how to go about studying abroad or planning a research visit. The DAAD can help them find the right answers.

As the world’s largest funding organisation dedicated to international academic exchange, the DAAD encourages students and researchers with disabilities or chronic illnesses to spend part of their academic programmes abroad, improve their foreign language skills and cultivate international contacts.

To ensure that disabled or chronically ill scholarship recipients are allowed equal access to study and research opportunities abroad, the DAAD can cover usually up to 10,000 euros in additional costs upon request which result from the disability or chronic illness and are not covered by other funding providers.
