In light of the new and recent Delta coronavirus variant outbreak and subsequent lockdown in Sydney, our Information Centre in Sydney is curently closed to visitors until 12 July 2021. We continue to work remotely again and remain available for all concerns and queries through e-mail, phone and teleconferencing during normal business hours, Mondays to Fridays.

Falling Walls Lab NSW - 15 July 2021

Falling Walls Lab New South Wales will be held as a virtual event on 15 July from 5:30-7:30 pm, hosted by DAAD Australia and Euraxess AUS-NZ.
The aim of the Falling Walls Lab is to provide a diverse and interdisciplinary pool of students, researchers, and early-career professionals with a world-class platform that helps them to; drive their innovations; develop their communication skills; and connects them with each other to create a global network with an impactful and sustainable community of innovators & changemakers.
The call for applications is now open for Falling Walls Lab New South Wales. Students, researchers, and early-career professionals which are residents of NSW or the ACT are invited to apply with their ground-breaking research, business models, and initiatives from all disciplines.

DAAD Lunchtime Webinar -
Master Studies & DAAD Graduate Scholarships
on 21 July (12 - 1pm)
|
Join us for this DAAD information session about Master Studies and DAAD graduate scholarships for Australians wanting to study a postgraduate degree at a German tertiary institution. We will cover topics such as university admission requirements, application procedures and financing for international students who are interested in studying in Germany. We will also provide essential information about the various scholarship programs that are on offer.
There are programs on offer for graduates of all disciplinary backgrounds as well as subject-specific scholarships for students of the creative arts sector such as Fine Art, Design, Film, Music, Architecture or the Performing Arts.

29 July: German Careers Day Australia-wide Online
Goethe-Institut, Melbourne, DAAD Australia and University of Melbourne invite Year 8-12 students from Australia to join and to learn about career paths with German language skills. Teachers and students-please join from the comfort of your classroom.
13 September: NSW German Careers Day
Goethe-Institut, Sydney, DAAD Australia and Macquarie University will offer a face-to face Careers Day for Year 9-12 students from NSW and undergraduate students interested in German Language and culture, held from 10am-2:30pm at Macquarie University.
20 - 21 September: Symposium “Bioeconomy and Circular Economy – Tackling Global Challenges on a Global Scale”
This exciting event will be held in a hybrid format. Topics include
- Importance of Bioeconomy and its relation to climate change and sustainable development goals/Australia’s Bioeconomy Policy
- German-Australian Cooperation in the field of Bioeconomy
- Industry-Research Connections and their importance in driving bioeconomic development & Research
- Bioeconomy 2030 – Germany’s National Research Strategy and Funding Measures

Monash University & University of Melbourne, Melbourne - Presentations on DAAD funding opportunities available to PhD students and Early Career Researchers.

Swinburne University of Technology, Melbourne - A discussion with staff in relation to collaborative opportunities inclusive of study tours to Germany, DAAD funding options for film graduates and scholarship funding programs for post-graduate study in Germany.

Harmonie German Club, Canberra - A general presentation on 'Working in Germany'.

German Embassy, Canberra – Attendance at the new signing of 'Enhanced partnership between the governments Germany and Australia'.

University of Sydney, Sydney - Participation in, and presentation at an information session on European Funding Opportunities for Australian researchers facilitated by EURAXESS Australia and New Zealand.

Queensland University of Technology, Brisbane (delivered online due to Covid restrictions) - An information session in relation to research grants and scholarships available to Master’s students, PhD students and researchers, including Postdocs and Early Career researchers with a focus on current programs for teaching and research collaboration.

Multilingualism is part of Europe
|
The European higher education area comprises 47 member states. It is inconceivable without this many languages. Preserving this linguistic diversity is important and English as a lingua franca is no substitute. That is why the DAAD is continuously working to strengthen the German language. The global corona pandemic posed major challenges for the international university landscape and thus also the work of the DAAD in the past year. Dealing with it constructively is a central theme of the 2020 annual report.

Call for Applications
PRIME - Postdoctoral Researchers International Mobility Experience
This program was initiated to support the international mobility of postdoctoral researchers by temporary positions at German universities in place of conventional scholarships. Funding is provided for 18 months, in which 12 months have to be spent abroad and 6 months (re-integration phase) at a German university.
Application deadline: 31 August 2021 (for stays that start in June 2022)

Study Scholarships - Postgraduate Studies in the Field of Architecture
This scholarship offers funding for projects in the area of design and planning. Lasting 10-24 months, the scholarship is suitable for foreign applicants who have gained a first university degree in the areas of Architecture, Interior Design, Monument Conservation, Urban Planning/Urban Development, Regional Planning, Landscape Architecture & Landscape Planning.
Application deadline: 30 September 2021 (for stays that start in October 2022)

Research Stays for University Academics and Scientists
This 1-3 months scholarship aims to support short-term research stays and promote both the exchange of experience and networking among colleagues. University teachers and scientists who have 1) completed a doctoral degree & 2) work at a university or research institute in their home country may apply.

|
A knowledge repository for the entire research landscape – this is what Germany’s new National Research Data Infrastructure is aiming for. The first consortia now have started their work, and to this end will receive 750 million euros over the coming years. As usual, you will find individual funding and career advice for international researchers in our June issue, too, and gain insights into an architect’s research into more sustainable building materials. And of course, we are still happy to meet you at our events – at least virtually. Enjoy!
