A few more busy months have passed, and more are coming!
We have a new section in this newsletter, "Alumni Testimonials", where our DAAD alumni and scholarship holders share their stories. For our inaugural section, we asked alumni Geoff Carman and Holly Anderson about their experiences of the DAAD University Winter Courses in Berlin and Aachen.
This newsletter has something for everyone: partnership opportunities with Germany, Brisbane's annual German Week, 10 Tips for Studying in Germany, and more.
We hope you enjoy this newsletter, and don't forget to apply!
With kind regards from Sydney,

Launch of the Australia-Germany Research Network
|
|
Launched in November 2018 as a joint initiative of the Australian Embassy Berlin and the Germany Embassy in Canberra, the Australia-Germany Research Network (AGRN) aims to ensure the two countries continue to forge strong connections and contribute to global scientific research together, by strengthening the countries’ existing research ties, and providing a platform to build new relationships between Australia and Germany.
The AGRN connects researchers, industry, and government in the two countries directly via a
LinkedIn group
; organises events that bring German and Australian researchers together; and distributes a bimonthly newsletter that highlights outstanding collaboration between Australia and Germany, upcoming events in both countries, and funding opportunities (subscribe via email to

Information session at Abbotsleigh School
|
|
As a part of our regular roadshow series, Michael Parsons, Study & Exchange Consultant at the DAAD Information Centre Sydney, gave a talk about studying in Germany at Abbotsleigh School, Wahroonga NSW. The comprehensive lecture was very well received by the Year 10, 11 & 12 students and focused on the German Higher Education system in general, study, subject choice at German universities and admission and language requirements. With many of the students facing subject choices for their curriculum in Year 11/12, the group was thrilled to learn about the perks of studying in Germany as a valuable option for their future career.

ALUMNI TESTIMONIALS
University Winter Course
|
|
For the first edition of our new section, we asked two alumni from the DAAD University Winter Course to share their experiences of living and studying in Germany.
|
|
"I completed the
DAAD University Winter Course
earlier this year at the Institut für Internationale Kommunikation (IIK) in Berlin. My German improved so much while I was there, and all of the teachers were extremely knowledgeable and helpful. The 4-hour a day class times made it possible for us to get sufficient German practice, whilst also allowing us time to explore the incredible city of Berlin. I also had the opportunity to make friends from all over the world, a lot of whom had a similar interest in learning German to hopefully work and live in Germany in the future. I’m so incredibly grateful to the DAAD for the scholarship allowing me to complete this course! I would highly recommend this course for anyone looking to improve their German.”
- Geoff Carman, Alumnus 2019

"My exchange experience was amazing. It was fantastic being able to travel to Aachen to learn German and meet so many amazing people. Travelling around Germany was a great way for me to improve my language skills, and I was able to learn so much in my 6 weeks in Germany. I would highly recommend going on exchange to anyone who wishes to experience the German culture and immerse themselves in the language."
- Holly Anderson, Alumna 2019
