DeKalb SPLOST
The DeKalb County Special Purpose Local Option Sales Tax is a one-cent sales tax that provides funding exclusively for capital projects and other long-lasting improvements, with a focus on transportation and public safety projects. The current SPLOST was approved by 69 percent of voters in November 2017 and will run until March 2024. In Dunwoody, funding from SPLOST I has paid for citywide paving, intersection improvements, police vehicles, and police equipment.
On Nov. 7, voters will consider a renewal of SPLOST. SPLOST II would give municipalities greater spending flexibility and follows a similar distribution formula for the funds based on the population of each city. The details of SPLOST II are included in the proposed 2024 budget approved by City Council.

DeKalb EHOST
The Equalized Homestead Option Sales and Use Tax (EHOST) is a one percent sales and use tax used to provide property tax relief for homeowners. Proceeds from EHOST are 100% dedicated to rolling back property taxes on homestead-exempt properties.
On Nov. 7, voters will consider a renewal of EHOST. The amount you will save depends on your home's tax bill and will vary based upon several factors including the value of your home, the millage rates, and any other tax exemptions on your home. Click on the button below to find a table that shows the estimated Equalized Homestead Option Sales and Use Tax (EHOST) tax savings since 2018 based on homes with the basic homestead exemption by the fair market value of the home.

Dunwoody Police report presented this week
After conducting town hall meetings, surveys, and more than 50 interviews over the course of a year, the consulting firm BerryDunn released the Dunwoody Police Department Operations and Management Assessment. The final report was presented to the Dunwoody City Council Monday and is available online.
“This assessment is an encouraging endorsement of current leadership, practices, and policies, but it also provides a road map for improvement,” said Dunwoody City Manager Eric Linton. “I was particularly pleased that BerryDunn described Dunwoody Police as one of the most well-run organizations its team has studied, giving significant credit to Chief Grogan as the primary architect.”

Free CRASE Course offered this month
How do you prepare for the unthinkable? Civilian Response to Active Shooter Events (CRASE) is a 2-hour course that provides history, strategies, guidance, and a plan for surviving an active shooter situation, and is free and open to the public. The strategy focuses on three steps: Avoid – Deny - Defend.
“We want to give people the knowledge and tools they need to make informed decisions if something were to happen,” said Dunwoody Police Major Oliver Fladrich. “I wish we didn’t have to offer this training, but the reality is too important to ignore.”
The Dunwoody Police Department will be offering a CRASE course on Thursday, Nov. 16 from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. at Dunwoody City Hall. In addition, this particular class will provide an introduction to Casualty Care Aid.

Phase III of the City’s popular Green Light Art project is complete with new designs installed on five traffic signal boxes. Unveiled last year, the public art display now features 15 original canvases that were digitized, printed, and wrapped onto the boxes. Phase III features the work of Dunwoody High School students, who created their designs for Dunwoody’s Storefront Art project. The City of Dunwoody plans additional wraps in the future.
“Our growing Green Light Art project shows our ongoing commitment to public art in Dunwoody,” said Dunwoody Mayor Lynn Deutsch. “These pieces of art spread color and creativity throughout the city, and I’m particularly proud of the way we’re able to showcase the work of young artists.”
