Reflections on the 2023 Dunwoody 4th of July Parade

Dunwoody Mayor Lynn Deutsch: "It literally rained on our parade – but it was still a fantastic celebration. Thanks to all the participants and spectators who stuck it out, often soaked to the bone. To Parade Chairs Penny Forman and Matt Weber, and the volunteers who make it happen, a huge amount of appreciation. Despite the weather, we estimate over 25,000 people watched or participated. While each parade is memorable, the 2023 version will be imprinted in our minds for decades to come. It will be the stuff of legends. Strangers huddled together under trees, under tents and under umbrellas. Spectators yelled words of encouragement to those of us marching, even when they themselves were soaked. It was a momentous occasion made possible because of the strength of our community."

Parade Co-Chair Matt Weber: "It was such a surreal moment when it started pouring, and I looked around and realized that nobody was leaving. Dunwoody stayed. They were loving it! Shirtless, shoeless children with huge smiles were dancing and cheering for candy. Older folks had given up on trying to stay dry and put away their umbrellas so they could clap for the parade. Soaking wet, the bands and participants were feeding off the energy of the crowd. It was amazing. A moment I’ll remember forever, and a special event that we’ll probably never see again. Thanks Dunwoody for showing up. Thank you for staying!"

Community policing

Mark your calendars for Coffee with a Cop on Monday, July 17 at Crema Espresso Gourmet, located at 2458 Mt. Vernon Rd.

Police officers will be on hand for sharing, chatting and answering questions. No other agenda; just a chance to meet and greet.

Stop by between 8 and 10 a.m.

We hear you! More than 300 people responded to our online survey on local road safety concerns. And even more of you met with our consultants during Lemonade Days and Dunwoody Food Truck Thursday last week. Your answers will help shape the Dunwoody Road Safety Action Plan, which is under development.

Here are the top three safety concerns for Dunwoody streets:

  1. Street design that encourages speeding
  2. Lack of sidewalks/poor condition of sidewalks
  3. Poor visibility at intersections/crosswalks

Find more survey results and details about the plan here: www.dunwoodyga.gov/roadsafety
