Registration is now open for the City of Dunwoody’s second Electronics Recycling event of the year on Sunday, Oct. 2, from 1 to 4 p.m. at St. Luke’s Presbyterian Church (1978 Mt. Vernon Rd). More than 26,000 pounds of electronic items were recycled at the city's Spring 2022 event.

Still have household hazardous waste to recycle?


DeKalb County will host a recycling event at the Central Transfer Station located at 3720 Leroy Scott Dr. in Decatur on Saturday, Oct. 15 from 8 a.m. to noon.


This event is FREE. Proof of DeKalb County residency is required. Residents are limited to 10 gallons of paint per vehicle. No commercial vehicles are allowed. Early arrival is highly recommended. Event staff and residents are required to wear masks.

It was a beautiful day for the Latino/Hispanic Heritage Celebration held in the courtyard of Dunwoody's Cultural Arts Center on Sunday. Thanks to the participants and the patrons of this wonderful event coordinated by Dunwoody's Economic Development department.

A second Hispanic Heritage Month celebration will kick off Dunwoody's Arts and Culture Month on Oct. 1 in Brook Run Park.

The date is new, and slots are still available for the Dunwoody Police Department's Citizens' Police Academy beginning Oct. 11.


Residents of Dunwoody ages 21 and older and Dunwoody business owners are invited to participate in this free program. It's designed to give participants an up-close look at various functions of police work through classroom lectures, training scenarios and off-site tours of partner locations, including ChatComm 911.


The next 12-week academy begins Tuesday, Oct.11. Classes are held Tuesdays from 6 - 9 p.m.

Consider StartSmart


The City of Dunwoody partners with the University of Georgia’s Small Business Development Center to assist the city's entrepreneurs. The SBDC's Start Smart program is a 4-week course designed to assist new business owners with business plans, financial forecasting, software options and more. Start Smart's upcoming October session will be held virtually with the first and last sessions held in person. Classes are held on Tuesday and Thursday evenings beginning Oct. 18 from 6 - 8 p.m. Cost is $195.

The fun begins at Pernoshal Park Oct. 1 with a family-friendly salsa/hip hop fusion dance class to the music of Encanto at 11 a.m. and noon, live music by Conga Bongo from 1 - 2 p.m., and fun throughout. Spruill Center for the Arts

Spruill Gallery hosts Spirits for Spruill on Saturday, Oct. 15 from 4 - 7 p.m. This year's event will feature the unveiling of the AMPLIFY public mural on Ashford Dunwoody Road next to the Spruill Gallery. 


For an early evening filled with music, food and drink, you can’t beat the ticket price of $45 per person. Enjoy a signature cocktail from the open bar provided by Distillery of Modern Art, a craft distillery and modern art experience, and delicious hors d’oeuvre buffet prepared by Good Foods Kitchen. The blues-rock sound of the Tyler Neal Band rounds out the evening.

Community

Get your tickets for "Rumors," one of Neil Simons' most celebrated plays, performed by the Dunwoody High School Wildcat Theatre. The show opens Oct. 13 and runs with four performances through Oct. 16.


The comedy is set during a dinner party in the upscale Palisades neighborhood north of New York City in the 1980s. Upon arrival, four couples find the host bleeding and the hostess and staff are missing. Now what? Hilarious chaos erupts from a series of mistaken identities, cover ups and ridiculous situations.

As the weather turns colder, help the Community Assistance Center make sure our community's children are comfortable in coats that fit. This year, the need is great. We plan to provide 500 children ages 0-18 with new coats, along with scarves, hats, and gloves. Buy from our Amazon Wish List, or donate so that coats may be purchased in bulk, or buy a coat and contact us to arrange drop-off. Every coat counts!
