A Note from the Lay Directors...
Sue and Tom LaMondia
Greetings brothers and sisters, may this find you well and looking forward to the gift of rest that the summer months can bring.
On June first, the Regional Cursillo came to our own backyard and we were invited to join the Vietnamese Cursillo Community in a day-long event. The community at St. Paul’s were so generous with their space and delicious food. One of the speakers, Cef Aguillon, the National Director of the Cursillo Movement, was an engaging speaker who holds a wealth of knowledge. We wanted to share with you just one of the take-aways that we found so meaningful.
In speaking to “how we sponsor” Cef really opened up that phrase we have become a bit immune to; “Make a friend, be a friend and bring your friend to Christ.” He explained how Cursillo has the beautiful and unique Charism of friendship. The Church describes a Charism as a spiritual gift, given to us by the Holy Spirit to be a channel of God’s goodness for people. Making and being a “friend” are foundational to our movement and to how we bring people to Cursillo. He explained that we sometimes make the mistake of “targeting” people who we think should make the weekend and forget the crucial piece of developing a friendship with them first. After all, didn’t Jesus do the same? He dined with tax collectors and chatted with that woman at the well. As it says on Cursillo’s national website; “The goal of Cursillo is to communicate God’s love through friendship in the moveable square meter where God has placed us at this exact moment.” Who has God placed in your “moveable square meter? De Colores!
