Curley Family Weekly Bulletin

Week of February 26-March 3, 2024

See below to find out what is happening at Curley!

From the President

The Gospel passage for this Sunday recounts the transfiguration of Jesus in the presence of several apostles (Mark 9:2-10).  Seeing Jesus in glory, described as frightening and overwhelming at the moment, must have been a wonderful consolation later on.  I think the passage can serve for us to have confidence in Jesus’ promises and in eternal life. In the busyness of life (and sometimes the messiness of life) it is not always easy to keep a spiritual perspective, or a focus on eternal life, but doing for others continues to make a difference.  I attend a lot of funerals, and it is always wonderful to hear family and friends remark on their appreciation of a person who lived for others.  One’s impact on family, co-workers, neighbors, etc. is happening every day, and so we can make a positive difference, and that can be a consolation for all with whom we interact.

From the Principal

Next week we will celebrate Countdown to Commencement, marking 100 days until the Class of 2024 graduates. This is a reminder that our four years together go rather quickly and that we are called to make the most of our time together. I hope that this celebration is a meaningful one for our seniors and their families.

This bulletin contains a reminder about the schedule change on March 1st and March 8th. Please be attentive to that change on the school calendar.

Finally, members of the Class of 2028 celebrate their acceptance into the Curley Family. I want to thank you - our Curley parents and families - for supporting our admission efforts by working Open House and other events, by encouraging prospective students to visit Curley, and by spreading the good word about your experience here.

Calendar Reminder

This is a reminder of a school calendar change to the class schedule for the month of March.

March 1, 2024, is now a professional development day for Faculty/Staff. There are no classes for students on that day. This will allow our faculty to participate in the Archdiocesan Professional Day program.

March 8, 2024, is now a school day with classes for all students. So that we do not have to adjust the school schedule days any further, Friday, March 8, will follow the D3 class schedule.

From the Assistant Principal of Academics

Countdown to Commencement is on February 26 which means we are on the home stretch to graduation and the end of the year. Please remind your son(s) to check Plus Portals on a regular basis and to see his teacher(s) if he has questions since we are closer to the end of the year. I also encourage your son to see his teachers for extra support and help if he is struggling in any of his courses. My door is always open if he needs anything.

Freshman and Seniors will be taking the ACRE test the week of March 4th during their Theology class. This is an Archdiocese required assessment to gauge their knowledge and understanding of what they have learned in Theology class.

From the College Counseling Office

All Parents

  • We are hosting two upcoming college fairs at Curley! The JET, Jesuit Excellence Tour, is coming to Curley on March 8, and a general college fair will be happening during lunch periods on March 26. All students are encouraged to attend. We hope they can use this time to ask questions and begin to think about their future.

Class of 2024 Parents

  • As the seniors near 100 days until graduation, this time of the year becomes crucial. Please make sure your son's grades are staying up and he is diligent about his work as final transcripts will be sent to the college he chose to attend.
  • Now is a good time to attend Admitted Student days!
  • Financial Aid packets are later this year than normal. FAFSA published a statement on January 30, 2024, that FAFSA information will not be sent to colleges until March. The colleges then need to process the information internally and send it to families. Deposits to tell which school your son is enrolling at are due May 1, 2024. Do not feel pressured to make a decision before you receive the financial aid information. Please contact us or the colleges' financial aid office if you have questions.
  • Please work with your student to update his SCOIR account as he receives decisions!

Class of 2025 Parents

  • We recommend Juniors take the SAT or ACT this spring. Please go to collegeboard.org or act.org to find and location that works for you.
  • College Counselors are meeting individually with each junior, please make sure to check with your son if he has had his meeting and what we discussed! We went over how to research colleges, SAT/ACT options and finding the right fit.
