News from your Head of School

Congratulations to our 2023-2024 Graduating Class

We are honored to celebrate the end of an awesome year with our graduating 8th graders. On Monday, May 13th, we celebrated their hard work and efforts during our graduation mass and ceremony. See some of the awesome accomplishments below!

The Joan & Don Reichenberger Scholarship:

This year, the Reichenberger family established a scholarship in honor of Joan, a 1963 graduate of Cure of Ars and grandmother to the McGinnis family. Cure of Ars teachers nominated students based on having the traits of Joan–a deep Catholic faith, assertive attitude, contagious spirit, and the ability to greet everyone with a smile and kindness.

When describing this student, teachers said “One of this student’s most admirable traits is his adaptability and willingness to collaborate with everyone, regardless of whether or not they are his close friends. He is accepting of others, a voice for his quieter peers, and a leader in welcoming people. His good-natured spirit and great sense of humor make him a pleasure to be around. He approaches challenges with a positive attitude and is always willing to lighten the mood. In addition to his warm personality, he is a person of high integrity, owning up to mistakes and striving to learn from them.”

Awarded to: William Scott

The Fr. Bernard Donnelly Division of the Ancient Order of Hibernians Scholarship:

The Father Bernard Donnelly Division of the Ancient Order of Hibernians offers FIVE $1,000 scholarships each year to eighth grade students who will be continuing their education at a Catholic high school in the Kansas City area.

Awarded to: Peter Frerker

Curé- Musetta Thompson Outstanding Scholar:

This award honors the memory of Musetta Thompson, a beloved teacher at Cure’ of Ars Catholic School. She always encouraged her students to pursue academic excellence. Students with the highest Grade Point Average through 6th, 7th, and 8th grade will receive a commemorative plaque and scholarship money to use towards their Catholic HIgh School Tuition.

Awarded to: Vivian Overlease

Curé Leadership and Spirit Award:

This award goes to a boy and a girl who are voted on by the Middle School teachers and is based on their leadership and service to Cure’ of Ars Community, their teachers and classmates. Each student will receive a $1,000 scholarship to use towards their Catholic High School tuition.

Awarded to: Connor Devereux

Awarded to: Molly Rome

Bea Redondo Scholarship:

Former staff member Bea Redondo’s presence will forever be felt at Cure’ of Ars Catholic School. In memory of such a remarkable person, Fr. Storey and the school have pledged to dedicate two scholarships each year to a graduating 8th grade boy and girl. This scholarship will recognize both the outstanding academic performance and faith-filled presence of two 8th grade students. There will be additional attributes the students must possess in order to receive this scholarship. To many students and staff Bea Redondo was famously known for her fiery compassion to help others and notorious for her unshakeable faith. The Bea Redondo Scholarship will be awarded to two students who display these characteristics. Each student will receive a $250 scholarship to use towards their Catholic High School tuition.

Awarded to: Tom Koetting

Awarded to: Georgia Cisar

MSGR Charles Scholarship:

The Knights of Columbus award this to two 8th grade students, one boy and one girl, who show personal characteristics and behaviors exemplifying Christian beliefs such as kindness, humility, caring attitude, and a strong sense of spirituality in their daily lives. The students were required to submit an essay to the Knights of Columbus along with a teacher recommendation. This money will go towards their Catholic high school education.

Curé of Ars Outstanding Teacher of the Year Award 2023-2024

Amanda Clayton

In 1994 a family in the parish wanted to do something special for our teachers at Curé of Ars. They have long recognized the dedication, sacrifice and continuing contributions made by all the teachers in our school. With the goal to foster excellence in education at Curé of Ars school, the McGurren family established the McGurren Family Endowment. Their objective is to recognize, reward, and retain outstanding teachers at our school.

Each spring our teachers are given the opportunity to nominate a teacher they truly believes deserves this honor. A selection committee of several individuals including members of the McGurren family, Fr. Storey, and multiple principals from other Catholic schools meet to review the applications and make the difficult decision.

We are excited to announce that the recipient of the Curé Outstanding Teacher of the Year for 2023-2024 goes to Mrs. Amanda Clayton! Mrs. Clayton is one of our 2nd grade teachers that has dedicated her years of service to Catholic education and is beloved by the entire school community of students and staff.

Mrs. Clayton has received a beautiful plaque recognizing her accomplishment as Teacher of the Year as well as a monetary reward from the McGurren Family Endowment. Congratulations, Mrs. Clayton

Congratulations to Mrs. Huska

We would like to bid a big, special farewell to Mrs. Huska as she begins her retirement. The impact that Joyce has had on her students and on this community is too big to measure. From the little but impactful gestures she does to support her colleagues, to the greater community acts of faith and service.

Thank you, Mrs. Huska, for your years of dedication and service to students.

We wish Mrs. Huska the best of luck and hope she enjoys travel, grandkids and family!

News from the Cafeteria

Parents: please make sure your students have lunch money in their lunch accounts. The cafeteria will NOT be allowing any more charges next week. If your child does not have enough funds for lunch, they will receive a peanut butter and jelly sandwich with milk only.

Eighth grade parents: leftover funds will be dispersed to younger siblings. If this is your last child here at Cure’ of Ars, you can request a refund, otherwise, it will go into our Angel Fund.
