Check out Vivienne and her first installment of food donations for her birthday! She asked friends and family to donate food for families experiencing food insecurity in lieu of gifts. Way to go Vivienne!
Thank you Theresa Wilke and all of the great business owners at Main Street Square for dropping off some much-needed donations!
Sofie Brossoie has been in the United States for about 13 years and just recently completed the requirements for her USA citizenship! In lieu of gifts at her celebration party, she asked her guests to bring donations for the Cupboard. Thank you for thinking of us on your big day!
Ben Howard is no stranger to the HSFC. Last fall, he donated over one and a half tons of food for his Eagle Scout project. Just recently, he saw that our shelves were bare again, so he emailed our Cupboard manager asking how he could help. Her response was that a food drive was most needed, but in their discussion, she discovered Ben planned to leave town in less than two weeks, so she wasn't sure it could be done. Ben's response: "Two weeks is plenty of time; I'm not doing anything!"
And with that, Ben gathered up his friends, asked local grocery stores for bags, printed up flyers, distributed those bags to three neighborhoods, organized his buddies to gather them all back, and delivered the donations to the Cupboard!
Ben and his friends brought in just under 2 tons of non-perishable foods, and we are so thankful. An idea and a little muscle can go a LOOOOONG way for others! Thank you!

Girl Scout Troop 1161 prepared 32 first aid kits for families receiving food. The troop's efforts will earn them the Girl Scout Bronze Award. Thank you!
Many thanks to Meghan and the Wildwood Subdivision for collecting non-perishable food!
Two of our great little volunteer gardeners saved up their allowance money and donated it to the Food Cupboard to help buy milk for our clients!
We are so thankful to be a part of the Holly Springs Chamber!
Thank you to the Woodcreek White Caps, a swim team that donated food to the Cupboard!

Our youth gardeners are very talented! Two of our special workers created this fantastic artistic work on our bee supers. This amazing artwork brings a smile to us each time we visit the bees! We love that our gardens provide an opportunity for youth to serve, learn, and express their talents. We like to think that we “grow more" than just food in the Cupboard garden.
Many thanks to Holly Grove Elementary School for their contributions to our Cupboard from their onsite school garden that the students and staff created!
We grow several types of onions for our clients each year and some even over winter. Onions grow to their largest size by late June. Our volunteers harvest, dry, and bundle up our onions for that little extra taste for those special meals.
Pictured here are some awesome volunteers harvesting and drying our Egyptian or "walking" onions.

Did you know that the Cupboard composts all of our discarded fruits and vegetables? They are mixed weekly with cardboard and wood chips. Our composting worms then do their magic and soon we have a valuable fertilizer for our garden.
We grow several varieties of eggplant in our garden. The long slender ones are Ichiban-type eggplant. They are just as tasty as the traditional eggplant and are easier to prepare and cook. They can be stir-fried, baked or grilled!
|
We grow most of our lettuce in raised beds off the ground or in hydroponic systems. We have more success when we provide shade during the hot summer months and keep them well watered.
