CULTURAL TRAVEL SINCE 1992

ART IN THE HEARTLAND

CRYSTAL BRIDGES & KANSAS CITY

OCTOBER 30-NOVEMBER 4, 2024

CRYSTAL BRIDGES MUSEUM OF AMERICAN ART is the centerpiece of our autumn tour. The museum was spectacularly crafted by Canadian architect MOSHE SAFDIE out of steel, wood, glass, concrete, and copper in a gorgeous setting of interconnected ravines and hills in BENTONVILLE, ARKANSAS. We will also visit KANSAS CITY to see the NELSON-ATKINS MUSEUM, the TRUMAN PRESIDENTIAL MUSEUM & LIBRARY in nearby INDEPENDENCE, MO, and more! A free day is planned to further enjoy the expanding cultural scene in BENTONVILLE, or travel to TULSA, OK to visit sites relevant to the city's Native and African American history, museums, and art deco architecture.

WEDNESDAY, OCTOBER 30 – Fly to KANSAS CITY, and make a stop at the home and memorial of 20th-century artist THOMAS HART BENTON. Then travel south to BENTONVILLE. Check into the DOUBLETREE INN & SUITES. Dinner is included this evening. (D)

THURSDAY, OCTOBER 31 – Our morning tour of BENTONVILLE will include the MILDRED B. COOPER MEMORIAL CHAPEL, by E. FAY JONES, who was a student of FRANK LLOYD WRIGHT. Then spend the day enjoying the beautiful landscapes, and inspiring architecture of MOSHE SAFDIE, and the collections of paintings, photographs, sculptures, and more at CRYSTAL BRIDGES MUSEUM. Dinner is included this evening. (B, D )

FRIDAY, NOVEMBER 1 – You are free to relax today and further enjoy the town of BENTONVILLE on your own. Planned also is an optional visit to TULSA, OK to explore the city's rich heritage of art deco architecture built in the early 20th century when Tulsa was the oil capital of America; and pay homage to the tragedy that took place where a prosperous African American business district known as BLACK WALL STREET was destroyed by a racist mob in 1921. Optional evening plans will be made this evening in BENTONVILLE. (B)
