Masks For Music Ministry Fundraiser Ends on September 27!
We are selling homemade cloth masks to raise funds to purchase outdoor sound equipment. Thanks to your support, we have raised almost $1,000 and have been able to purchase new microphone cords, two new speakers, and an outdoor soundboard!

Need a new mask during this pandemic time? Try one of ours, carefully made by our Faith Knotters! Each mask has an elastic band so there are no strings to tie. There are sizes for adults and children with some of your favorite colors and patterns. Purchase one for everyone in your family to help support a good cause. Please click here to fill out the order form.

Masks will be available for pick up during outdoor worship on September 27.  The cost of each mask is $5.00. For more information about this fundraiser please contact Pastor Reggie. Thank you!

This is My Father’s/Mother’s/Maker’s World

Has anyone ever asked you who or what God is, and you struggled to respond? Have you have ever been one of Crown’s Lenten Wednesday service speakers? If so, you can empathize with the difficulty of finding the right words to describe God. Perhaps that is why Matthew often begins a parable by saying, “The kingdom of God is like…”

Our closing hymn for Sunday is a prime example. It holds a relevant and beautiful truth for us in 2020, in language that feels more like 1920 (or 1820!). “This is my Father’s world, oh, let me ne’er forget that though the wrong seems oft so strong, God is the ruler yet.” When was the last time you said the words, “ne’er” or “oft”? The historian in me is comforted by the idea that our forebears also struggled with who God is. But the pastor in me is more interested in life and worship than in preserving the past.

So, on Sunday when we sing This is My Father’s World, (see ELW #824) we’re going to edit the original poem (from 1888!) for accuracy during a pandemic, social unrest, record unemployment, divisive politics, etc. “My Father’s world” will be expanded in verses 2 and 3 to “My Mother’s world” and “My Maker’s world” broadening our understanding of God. “He” will refer back to “father; “she” will refer back to Mother. “Ne’er” becomes “not”. And “oft”? Well, “often” in this context seems very clumsy. Perhaps it reminds us that, like the love God, language is more art than science.

SPARK Lesson: "The Vineyard Workers"

Today we learn from Jesus about the “last being first” and the “first being last.” He teaches us that God is generous to everyone, no matter who they are or where they come from. Sometimes this is difficult to do when we think we deserve more than someone else, but Jesus reminds us that we are all loved equally by God. And we are called to do the same!
Nursery Nuggets
Hi Nursery Buddies and Parents!

We are going to start a new thing this week - a fun way of learning about the Creation story! There will be seven weeks of diving into the word and exploring with crafts, songs, some brainstorming to see what you think and adventure out into the wild around us. So, best place to start is the very beginning!

Read: Genesis 1:1-31

Bible Memory: Genesis 1:1 “In the beginning God created the heavens and earth” and I have included a printout of the words to play a game to help you get it down.

Art: Make a picture of what God’s creation looks like to you. (If you would like to share your picture, you can ask a grown up to email it to me at jennifer@crownofglory.org)

Adventure: Go on a listening walk. But be very quiet so that you can hear God’s creation around you.

This weeks colors: First, God created light, so the colors for this week are black and white. See if you can find this contrast of light and dark in your home. (ex. Lights on or off, the sun being up or down, a pillow being lighter or darker than a blanket, etc.)

I hope you enjoy this lesson and keep staying healthy and safe!
