SPARK Lesson: "Be Humble" |
This Sunday, during the Children’s Message, Pastor Reggie will read from the Gospel of Matthew in our SPARK Story Bible. Be sure to follow along with him! In today’s story, Jesus talks to some rabbis, or teachers, about how they are not doing the right thing. God notices what we’re like on the inside, not just what we pretend to be on the outside. Jesus teaches the rabbis, and us, how to be humble and help one another!

Hi Nursery Buddies and Parents!
This week we are going to take a look at another character from the Bible that chose to be diligent in obeying God, Noah! This is another somewhat familiar name that you have heard around church. Noah’s story is found in Genesis 6:9, but before you read, try telling your parents all you remember about Noah.
Memory Verse: Colossians 3:23 “Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for human masters.”
What does diligence mean? Steadily persevering, being constant in effort to accomplish something.
Now let’s get serious and try some challenges!
- Challenge 1: Be on the lookout for bodies of water- lakes, ponds, streams, or puddles. Each time you see one of these bodies of water, use it as a reminder to pray, asking God to help you obey God as Noah did.
- Challenge 2: As you go to bed, think back through your day and talk to God about how you obeyed or disobeyed Him.
- Challenge 3: When your parents tell you to do something that you don’t want to do, remember Ephesians 6:1, “Children, obey your parents in the Lord for this is right. Honor your father and mother- which is the first commandment with a promise- so that it may go well with you and that you may enjoy long life on the earth.”

Last week we sang “A mighty fortress is our God, a bulwark never failing.” Was the last time you used the word “bulwark” a year ago? This week we sing “For all the Saints who from their labors rest; …thou wast their rock, their fortress and their might.” Both the language and the tune of these hymns feel dated in 2020, but I’m not sure I mind. Lutherans, and other denominations, have been singing Ein Feste Burg, a.k.a. A Mighty Fortress, in various translations since Martin Luther wrote it in the early 1500’s. For All the Saints is only about 100 years old, but with its Victorian English, it has a timelessness much like the King James version of the Bible. Timelessness seems appropriate when we are singing about those across the ages, who have set an example for us by their faith. Their example is certainly not bound by time.
When we sing music and language that feels dated, it may be a way for us to have communion and fellowship with the many followers in the way of Jesus, known and unknown, who have gone before us. It allows us to think in the big picture; it’s not all about me. Hebrews 12:1 talks about us being “surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses” that we should “run with perseverance the race that is set before us.” Good words for us, especially as we live through these difficult COVID times.

"Do Not Be Afraid" A Virtual Christmas Pageant |
Despite all the plans that COVID-19 has forced us to cancel, we are excited to announce that the Christmas Narrative is STILL on!
This year, we will be recording a completely virtual Christmas Narrative and posting it on Christmas Eve. We will be using a brand-new script recently released by Illustrated Ministry, specifically written and designed for this year and the virtual age we are living in. It is still the traditional Christmas story, with all of the traditional characters, but it is cleverly set in the context of a parent telling a child the story of hope when he/she is scared. More details to come in the next few weeks!

Seeds of Hope gives the children of El Salvador access to education where they normally wouldn’t have access. In short, Seeds of Hope sponsors children to go to school. The Global Partnership for Education states that the benefits of education in underdeveloped countries are as follows:
- Fosters peace and saves children’s lives
- Makes people healthier (increases use of immunizations, reduces maternal deaths, reduces fertility rates, combats diseases)
- Promotes gender equality
- Boosts economic growth (increases income, and reduces poverty)
- Prevents disaster related deaths
The communities that are sponsored otherwise couldn’t afford to have their children educated. They are communities of subsistence farmers. They live in two sided shacks with tin roofs. The only water they have is collected off the roof when it rains.
These communities need support and education. This is a great way to help them help themselves. By granting these children an education, they can later get jobs that support their families, become healthier, and promote peace.

The West entrances and drive lanes at the preschool entrance are under construction! Crown of Glory has contracted with Kusske Construction Company to begin Phase #1 of our parking lot remodel. Bob Chinnock, our volunteer building and grounds coordinator, will be the lead manager on the parking lot project. Our goal is to complete this first phase of the project before winter. Phase #1 of the parking lot project has been fully funded by the Pulte Land Swap Fund. We look forward to our new addition to the entrances and curbs along Cardinal Street on the West side of the parking lot! |

In response to the Governor’s “Stay Safe MN” order, Crown of Glory is extending the closure of our church building, and all in-person indoor worship and ministries until further notice. Our reopening plan can be found here. Thank you for your support during these times.
