Music Notes
Nothing in nature lives for itself.
The rivers do not drink their own water; the trees do not eat their own fruit;
the sun does not shine on itself, and flowers do not spread their fragrance for themselves.
Living for others is a rule of nature.
We are all born to help each other. No matter how difficult it is...
Life is good when you are happy; but much better when others are happy because of you.
— Pope Francis

I don’t often quote the Pope, but I came across this about a week ago and was really taken by it. It reminds me of the pastor that served St. Olaf College when I was there. He used to remind us just before finals not to pray that you would do well on your finals but that everybody would. That way you’ll have 2999 people praying for you, not just one. All joking aside, this is the essence, the spirit of living. Live for others.

We delve into that spirit on Sunday as we explore verse 4 of our new hymn In the Light of Your Promise. It is the spirit of God, the spirit of Jesus that brings us life and love, guides our hearts, and teaches us all how to become one human family.

Special thanks to the members of the Chancel Chimers who played so beautifully last Sunday, October 18 - Krista Hammann, Rorie Chinnock, Sarah Morrow, Miyoko Kawanowe, and Melissa Whiting. Melissa also played orchestra bells beautifully on the Prelude, setting the stage for our Confessional Hymn. Thank you, Chancel Chimers!

Calling all SPARK and Connect Parents – We want to hear from you! SPARK Lesson: "The Greatest Commandment"
This Sunday, during the Children’s Message, we will hear from Jenni Payne about Jesus telling his disciples that there is one commandment (remember, there are ten total commandments!) that is more important than any other: love God. No matter what we do, no matter where we live, we are to love God more than anything and anyone else every single day. Jesus also reminds the disciples that there is a second very important commandment that we shouldn’t forget about: love your neighbor. God loves all people and so should we! So if you can’t remember all ten of the commandments, that’s okay! Just try to remember these two: love God and love your neighbor.

November SPARK Bags!

It’s almost time to pick up your November SPARK bags! Please plan to stop by the church next Wednesday, October 28 or Thursday, October 29 between 9:00 a.m. - 4:30 p.m. Once you arrive at the North entrance, give the office a call and tell us how many bags you need (one bag for each SPARK student) and a staff member will bring them out to you! Feel free to let Pastor Laura know if you have any questions or need to make different arrangements for picking up your bags. Please contact Pastor Laura for more information.
Nursery Nuggets
Hi Nursery Buddies and Parents!

We are beginning our Character Studies. This section, join me and my family as we discover the importance of Diligence. Especially now as things are so different because of Covid-19, we have been reminding of what hard work can do for us. Maybe its working a little harder to concentrate on school work. Or working a little harder to be able to reach out to others outside our home that we love. Diligence is all over the Bible, this week we will look at the example of Jonah.

Read: Jonah 1-3

Memory Verse: Colossians 3:23 “Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for human masters.”

What does diligence mean? Steadily persevering, being constant in effort to accomplish something.

Dinner or Story Time Discussion: What are some ways we can be diligent? What are some ways we are not diligent or lazy?

Blessings of Obedience: Jonah 3:10 "When God saw what they did and how they turned from their evil ways, God relented and did not bring on them the destruction God had threatened."

Consequences of Sin: Jonah 1:12 “Pick me up and throw me into the sea,” he replied, “and it will become calm. I know that it is my fault that this great storm has come upon you.” Jonah 1:17, "Now the LORD provided a huge fish to swallow Jonah, and Jonah was in the belly of the fish three days and three nights."

Questions:
  1. Why do you think Jonah didn’t obey God?
  2. Did he get away with disobeying?
  3. Was Jonah able to “flee from the Lord” as it says in verse 3?
  4. How did the Lord use Jonah’s disobedience to glorify Himself? (Jonah 1:16)

Have Fun,
Jenni Payne

Parking Lot Construction
The West entrances and drive lanes at the preschool entrance are under construction! Crown of Glory has contracted with Kusske Construction Company to begin Phase #1 of our parking lot remodel.  Bob Chinnock, our volunteer building and grounds coordinator, will be the lead manager on the parking lot project. Our goal is to complete this first phase of the project before winter. Phase #1 of the parking lot project has been fully funded by the Pulte Land Swap Fund. We look forward to our new addition to the entrances and curbs along Cardinal Street on the West side of the parking lot!
