October Sermon Series: In the Light of Your Promise
This month, we will be diving into the new hymn, In the Light of Your Promise, written by Tom Paulson and Pastor Laura. Each Sunday, Pastor Reggie or Pastor Laura will preach on one verse of the hymn, combining the focus of the poetry with a passage from scripture.

Tune in to discover more about this timely hymn and all of the ways God is alive and moving through word and song.
Fare For All Tonight
Fare For All offers fresh vegetables, fruits, and meat for sale at prices that range about 40% less than grocery store prices. Everyone is welcome tonight from 4:00-6:00 p.m.!

The drive-through FFA is a wonderful way to serve people in our community! Please email Kanitta Rentfrow if you are able to volunteer! Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, we are encouraging those at risk to refrain from volunteering at this time.

All volunteers must wear gloves and a mask at all times, a yellow vest, comfortable shoes, and needs to dress appropriately for being outdoors for that time period. You will need to bring a mask with you. Gloves and hand sanitizer will be provided.
Blessing of the Animals Service: Saturday, October 3
Do you have a furry, scaly, or feathered friend that you would love to honor and bless? In the spirit of “all God’s critters having a place in the choir,” CoG will be hosting its first ever Blessing of the Animals service on Saturday, October 3, at 5:00 p.m.! Plan to come with your pet(s), or a picture of a pet who has died, for a short blessing service outside in the CoG parking lot.

Please visit our website to view the guidelines for attending and to register. Questions? Contact Pastor Laura.
Campfire Worship: Saturday, October 10
Mark your calendars and register for our fall Campfire Worship on Saturday, October 10 at 5:00 p.m.! We will gather for a casual service and enjoy socially distanced fellowship afterwards.

Join us around a warm campfire before the weather gets chilly! Bring a lawn chair, your mask and a marshmallow roasting stick. Marshmallows will be provided!

Registration and following CDC guidelines is required. Please contact Pastor Laura with any questions.
Kitchen Essentials Ministry
Although it has looked different than years past, Crown of Glory’s Kitchen Essentials Ministry has continued to serve those in need in our community. We have provided 15 families with basic kitchen items so far this year.

At this time we are accepting donations at Furnishare, 7890 Market Blvd., Chanhassen during their store hours. We are especially in need of toasters. Other accepted items are everyday silverware and dinnerware sets, baking sheets and pans, glassware, cooking pots and pans, potholders and dish towels.

Thank you for your continued support of this ministry. Please contact Tracy at 952-239-9344 if you have any questions.
Music Notes
I don’t normally read the obituaries, unless of course I know someone who died, but this one caught my attention. Constance Weldon, pioneering virtuoso of the tuba, died at 88. She joined the Boston Pops Orchestra, part of the Boston Symphony, in 1955, and was the first woman ever to play tuba in a professional American orchestra. She also played with the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra in Amsterdam, the Kansas City Philharmonic, and taught tuba at the University of Miami. Fifty years would elapse before another woman was appointed to play tuba in a professional American orchestra, the Philadelphia Orchestra in 2006.

The stereotype of a tuba player is usually a big, tall man. Think about how heavy all that tubing is; it must weight 50-60 lbs. Carrying that around must be a challenge, let alone holding it, blowing air into it, and making beautiful music! RIP Constance. Talk about breaking down stereotypes!

I bring this to your attention, because I see hope in breaking down walls, stereotypes, that divide us as human beings, especially those of which we may not even be aware. During a pandemic that forces us to wear masks and stay away from each other, I look for ways to see the humanity in other people. Constance’s life, and what she was able to accomplish despite the stereotype, gives me hope.

Music this weekend is breaking a bit of a barrier of our own. Five members of the Chancel Chimers – Laura Hauck, Krista Hammann, Miyoko Kawanowe, Jodi Barnett, and Sarah Marrow – will be playing during worship. We have been careful to wear masks and keep our distance, but it was still incredibly fun to make music together at rehearsal. Five more Chancel Chimers are playing on Sunday, October 18. We are slowly, but surely, opening the music bubble. Look for more instruments in November and December.

Surely, we will be able to sing together again. If a woman can find a way to play tuba professionally in 1955, certainly we will find a way to sing together.

Time to Pick Up Your October SPARK Bags
Please plan to stop by the church today, October 1, between 11:00 a.m. - 4:30 p.m. Once you arrive at the North doors, give the office a call and tell us how many bags you need (one bag for each SPARK student) and a staff member will bring them out to you! Feel free to let Pastor Laura know if you have any questions or need to make different arrangements for picking up your bags. Please contact Pastor Laura for more information.

SPARK Lesson: "Parable of the Vineyard"
This Sunday, during the Children’s Message, we will hear about some vineyard workers who are not very good listeners. Are you a good listener? Sometimes, listening is really hard and we get distracted, or don’t want to hear what the person talking to us has to say. Sometimes, we all need help remembering to listen, especially to Jesus.
Nursery Nuggets
Hi Nursery Buddies and Parents!

This week we are looking at the 3rd day of God creating our home. Do you remember what was made from reading last week? Let’s take a look.

Read: Genesis 1:1-31

Bible Memory: Genesis 1:1 “In the beginning God created the heavens and earth”

Art: I have an owl craft project for us to do the uses beautiful fall leaves! Have an adult help you print off the eyes for your picture, then collect leaves from outside and glue them on a piece of paper in the shape of an owl. Choose your owl eyes and glue them on.

Adventure: Take some time to play in leaves and feel the ground. Make a pile of them to jump in, or throw the leaves up really high and see how they land.
This week’s colors: Green and brown to represent the earth. Right now some of the green is starting to go away for a while. While on a walk or playing outside, take note the trees that are changing, and those that stay green. Look for things around your home that are made from the earth.

Have Fun,
Jenni Payne
