We come to the final Living Liturgy experience in our Easter journey! We have been practicing resurrection and living the gospel in our daily life together. Thank you for joining me in this experiment!
This week, we read in Acts 2:1-21 the story of Pentecost, the coming of the Holy Spirit, which gives birth to the church in a curious and unexpected way. We read that the people were bewildered, amazed, astonished, and perplexed at all they experienced that day. “What does this mean?” they asked. Peter declares the Spirit is poured out upon all flesh to tell the truth about what God is up to. This truth is given to those with power, and to people without power at the edges of society. All kinds of people will all see visions and dream dreams of God’s great and glorious work as it is unfolding and yet to be!
We can wonder with amazement and curiosity at all we see in our world today and ask “What does this mean?” And like Peter, we can trust God is up to something new and life giving, even if beyond our imagination to see it – yet! To live this gospel promise, practice curiosity! At the end of the day, perhaps on a walk where the wind can circle around you, ponder what you have seen, heard, and experienced with curiosity; breathe deeply asking “What does this mean?” Let that question settle into your heart, open to the breath of God to speak life-giving truth to you there. What is being born? What communication is becoming clear? Where are connections and connectedness happening in surprising ways?
In the gospel reading from John 20:19-23, the crucified and risen Jesus speaks a word of peace to his beloved, yet fearful followers. As they breath in Jesus’ breath they receive the Holy Spirit and are sent into the world as God sent Jesus, with power and love. Receive this blessed breath of power and love into your own body. Let it envelop your questions and troubled heart. And may the peace of God that passes all understanding keep your heart and mind in Christ Jesus our Lord.

Music Notes from Tom Paulson

“With malice toward none; with charity for all; with firmness in the right, as God gives us to see the right, let us strive on to finish the work we are in; to bind up the nation's wounds; to care for him who shall have borne the battle, and for his widow, and his orphan -- to do all which may achieve and cherish a just, and a lasting peace, among ourselves, and with all nations.”
I am astonished by these words! They come from Lincoln’s second inaugural address, March 1865. The Civil War is winding down, a war of attrition that killed over 600,000 Americans, and left most the country in tatters. He and his wife, Mary, had lost a child to typhoid, their second, and Mary was becoming increasingly emotionally unbalanced. He was reviled by much of the country as a monster or a buffoon, and even though he suffered from his own demons, it was his steady, strong leadership that had held the nation together!
Pastor Laura lent me a book of piano solos recently. One of the solos was arrangement of It is Well with My Soul. Horatio Spafford wrote the words to this hymn in 1873 after his wife and daughter died in a shipwreck.
When peace like a river attendeth my way; when sorrows like sea billows roll.
Whatever my lot you have taught me to say, “It is well, it is well with my soul.”
If ever there were two people who had reason to despair, it was Lincoln and Spafford, and yet they were able to find hope, courage, strength, and fortitude, and through their example inspire others. May Lincoln and Spafford give you the same sense of hope, courage, strength, and fortitude that they have given me.

Customers will use the north entrance, receive a menu and follow the volunteers' directions for purchasing and picking up their items. Then exit through the designated area. How Does Your Garden Grow?
|
The Creation Care Team encourages gardeners to plant a little extra if you have the space. Original plans were for our ministry to coordinate a harvest-themed event with various activities. We don’t know if we’ll be able to do that this year, but we believe it would still be wonderful to share God’s garden abundance with the congregation in some fashion. We will try to make that happen this fall. Hope your garden is off to a great start!

Get Your Green Thumb Ready
|
Spring has sprung and it’s time to plan CoG’s landscaping projects to help keep the grounds looking good. This year the goal will be to keep projects easy-to-tackle while aligning with social distancing guidelines. Our Adopt-A-Garden program was a great success last year and we are happy to bring that back this year. This allows you and your family to help CoG by maintaining a small planting area or potted plants throughout the growing season. Other project work will focus on weed maintenance and perennial additions around the property—watch for more details soon. If you would like to join this ministry, please email

Building Use:
- In response to the Governor’s most recent extension of the “Shelter in Place” order, Crown of Glory is extending the closure of our church building, and all in-person worship and ministries until June 1 or until further notice. Thank you for your support during these times.
