SPARK Lesson: "God Calls Samuel"
This Sunday, during the Children’s Message, Pastor Reggie will be reading 1 Samuel 3:1-20 from our SPARK Story Bibles. Be sure to have yours with you and follow along! We will hear about how God called a boy named Samuel to do God's work in the world. Samuel's story will teach us that we are never too young or too old to answer God's call!
Nursery Nuggets
Hi Nursery Buddies and Parents!

Did you know that the word “joy” appears in the Bible (NIV) 218 times? That seems like a lot, until you consider that there are a total of 727,969 words. God is very specific about joy and its meaning. I believe that is for a strong reason, much like everything else God does. We are told that joy is having hope, celebrating our blessings, and trusting God in His faithfulness to us. God says not to worry and to have joy. He says not to be afraid, but to have joy in knowing God, by talking to God in prayer, reading His Word and believing with all our hearts that we are saved and forgiven. Joy is not being ashamed of our mistakes but accepting God’s grace. I know I feel great joy when I remember to be aware that I am filled with the Holy Spirit and sing praises to God. Throughout the Bible, joy is related to singing and shouting in celebration. Joy is attached to our salvation and inheritance of Heaven. Living eternally with Jesus is something to celebrate!

Activity #1: Draw a picture of the things that bring you joy; we will do an activity with it next week.

Activity #2: Do one thing this week that could bring joy to someone else. Examples: Give a hug to someone in your COVID bubble, wave to a neighbor passing by with a smile or help someone in need. How did you feel afterwards? Did it also bring you joy?

Activity #3: Here is a coloring page you can enjoy decorating all your own!

Music Notes
With everything going on in our nation – pandemic, rioting, MLK Day, impeaching one president, inaugurating the next, etc. it would be easy to feel despair. But, as Pastor Laura put it so well last Sunday, “We have hope, because Jesus is who God says he is.” And this Sunday we have an amazing opportunity to put that hope into action.

  1. We’ll read and sing Psalm 139, which teaches us that God knows each of us, individually and corporately, better than we know ourselves. God loves us just as we are and too much to leave us alone.
  2. We’ll read in John’s gospel how the disciple Nathanael asks, “Can anything good come out of Nazareth? (You might as well ask, “Can anything good come out of Chaska?) The reply, “Come and see!”
  3. We’ll pray quoting St. Richard of Chichester, “May we know you more clearly, love you more dearly, and follow you more nearly, day by day.”
  4. We’ll hear from Pastor Reggie about encounters with Jesus.
  5. And we’ll seek inspiration in the spirit of Martin Luther King, Jr., whose holy leadership broke down barriers between people.

So, we’re going to end worship singing how we can put all that hope into action, “This little light of mine, I’m gonna let it shine. Everywhere I go, I’m gonna let it shine. Jesus gave it to me, I’m gonna let it shine.” https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wBwJik2FKW0. Sounds like good church to me!
