Beverly Perdue
Beverly Perdue has been recognized by Artist Magazine as a "rising watercolor star."  She has had representation and won national and international acclaim for her paintings. In her paintings, she strives for more than a camera or the eye records. She seeks to speak through her work and reinterpret nature through the use of brilliant color. Bev says, "My goal is to paint what an apple tastes like, not just what it looks like."

Linda Hollett-Bazouzi
Linda Hollett-Bazouzi is a landscape painter, working in oils with a paint knife. Her plein air work greatly informs her studio work. Painting outdoors requires the artist to quickly capture the movement of clouds, the rhythm of waves, the light of day. In the studio, she is driven to capture those moments with the same sense of urgency she feels when painting outdoors.

Sherwin Ghaphery

Sherwin Ghaphery is a plein air and studio painter. Her travels give inspiration to capture the people and places she visits. "I enjoy letting the paint flow over the canvas, giving life again to what I have experienced." She has been influenced by the works of her favorite painter, Joaquin Sorolla.

Jim Smither

Jim's academic training informed his painting by sharpening his focus for capturing the spatial and atmospheric qualities of landscapes and exploring the interplay of built and natural forms, including the earth, sky, water, vegetation, buildings, and public spaces.
Phyllis Donley

Phyllis Donley was educated as a stockbroker and had the good fortune of retiring at an early age. She has been creating since she was very young and loves organic-looking pieces of jewelry. She has taken classes to expand her knowledge of gems and precious metal clays. Phyllis has lived in Richmond, Virginia, since 1998.

James Bassfield

James Bassfield grew up in Richmond, Virginia, where he began his love affair with art at an early age. Over the years, he taught himself to draw and paint in most any medium. After graduating from Hampton University with a degree in electronics, James enjoyed a 30-year career with IBM while still becoming prolific in his art.
Elaine Murkin

Elaine's influences take in the broad spectrum of her travels with many paintings depicting the pastoral beauty of England as well as the areas around Lake Chesdin and Richmond.
Elaine's prolific work and commitment has yielded a personal style that is rich and expressive. Her use of both brushes and palette knives creates a superb balance between close detail and heavy impasto techniques.
Martha Holthausen

Martha is an artist and painter living on Maryland's Eastern Shore. She has worked professionally as a fashion illustrator, interior designer, art teacher, and award-winning painter in oil and watercolor.
Capturing natural changing light and the pure pleasure of painting are Martha's motivations to continue as an artist.
Troy Bunch

Troy's imaginative realism and surrealism usually depicts women juxtaposed with images from nature and dreams. He seeks to produce interesting, thought-provoking, and beautiful paintings that have meaning to him and also personal significance to the viewer. Equally important is the continuous improvement of his skills and technique with each new painting.
Beverley Jane

Beverley Jane paints images that are welcoming. They are colorful, but peaceful, images of architecture. Focusing on doorways and porches surrounded with gardens and pots full of blooms, she captures the play of sunlight and shadows. Beverley Jane especially enjoys the seasonal colors, spring's new blossoms or autumn's changing foliage.

What is Art?
Art can refer to anything made by someone considered an artist, yet the definition of an artist has evolved over time and varies based on context. In Ancient Greece, the term for art was " techne," though that word did not denote art in the modern sense and was instead applied to human activities, especially handicrafts and technical work. The most esteemed ancient art forms were music and poetry, and those were regarded as divinely inspired. Eventually, the idea of art expanded in scope to include literature, visual art, performing art, and decorative art.
