October: Hope, Joy, and Wonder
Hope is finding the light in the darkness and trusting in right endings.
Joy is the fullness of spirit that blooms from the loving heart.
Wonder is to marvel at mystery, to stand in awe before the unexplained.

As you may know, I spent last week as an accreditation team member for New England Association of Schools and Colleges (NEASC) at the Lyford Cay School in the Bahamas. While going to the Bahamas for any reason is wonderful, my team members and I had very little time to enjoy the beautiful natural scenery of the island. Instead, I visited dozens of classes and met with teachers, administrators, parents, and board members to gain a better sense of this school's environment and to provide feedback on ways the community can improve learning outcomes for their students. Needless to say, in a very short period of time, I got to know Lyford Cay very well. And I also had the opportunity to not only gain a sense of this school's program and culture, but also the many factors that make this school the way it is today.
Serving as a member of an accreditation team is some of the best professional development one can do as a teacher or administrator. I am grateful for the chance to learn so much about this school and eager to share key insights with colleagues and bring lessons learned back to Crossroads.
Yours truly, Brad

Operation Gratitude
The upcoming virtue for the month of November is gratitude. One way we would like to show gratitude this month is to invite all students and families to donate leftover, excess, or unwanted Halloween candy to send to Operation Gratitude. Operation Gratitude is an organization that, in short, assembles care packages filled with food, hygiene, and handmade items, plus letters of appreciation to veterans, first responders, and members of the military. In the days following Halloween, there will be a donation bag set out in the morning for students to donate any candy during drop-off, as well as donation bags in the Middle and Lower Schools. Student volunteers will assist in sorting, weighing, and packaging the donated candy at school. We look forward to participating in this small act of appreciation and hope your student(s) will participate as well!

Stuff-a-Truck (11/13)
The annual Stuff-a-Truck community service project by the second graders is coming! This year we will be collecting for the Upper Valley Haven. Many local families can be helped as the cold weather arrives by receiving our clean, gently-used outgrown items. As you switch over your closets for the new season, please put aside coats, jackets, and snowsuits to share with the folks at the Haven. The second graders will be collecting your donations ONE DAY ONLY: Tuesday, November 13, at drop-off on the playground. Let's Stuff-a-Truck for our neighbors!

For parents: "Navigating our Digital World: Strategies for Nurturing Strong Minds and Kind Hearts in the Era of Screens and Social Media"
For students: Middle School dance/Lower School movie night
This is a special evening for parents to come together to discuss specific strategies for managing digital media at home. For parents, the evening will include:

Family Fall Festival Thank you
It was terrific to see so many families at the Fall Family Festival last Friday! Delicious tacos were consumed, costumed children trunk-or-treated and visited the Hotel Transylvania Haunted Maze, families gathered around the fire to warm themselves then set off on the Moonlight Walk. Afterwards, the young ones enjoyed popcorn while watching Hotel Transylvania, the preteens danced the night away, and parents relaxed with drinks, snacks, and good conversation! We are very glad so many attended and enjoyed themselves! Hearty thanks to Matt McGuigan, Gene Martin, Lyle Nichols, Deb Schaner, and all the families that contributed creative trunks and treats! -Crossroads PA
