We are so glad to have you in the Crosby Scholars Class of 2024! Here's the November Newsletter with upcoming deadline reminders, Scholarships + financial aid help, and a community service opportunity!

Don't Miss This! Requirements Due December 1st

Don't forget - in less than one month, the Senior Academy and College Fair/College Visit requirements are due December 1st. You can check to see if you have completed these requirements in your Crosby Scholars Portal.

If you are still unsure if you have met these requirements, please connect with your Advisor or send us an email at seniorprogram@crosbyscholars.org for help right away. Adulting Tip: Ask early! Don't wait until the deadline to ask for help!

Here's how to complete these requirements:

Senior Academy Requirement - Attend or complete at least one (1) Senior Academy option.

College Fair/College Visit Requirement - Attend one (1) college fair or visit four (4) colleges either virtually or in-person. Submit the College Fair/Visit Form when you have attended a college fair or visited four (4) colleges.

Financial Aid Information & Help Session for Families

You're Invited! WSFCS is offering a Financial Aid Information & Help Session for Families on November 7th. Experts from Wake Forest University, the Winston-Salem Foundation, and College Foundation of North Carolina will serve as guest speakers to help guide you and your families. Registration is required here.

Need Senior Academy Credit? Seniors, if you attend this event, you can earn Senior Academy credit. Note: You must email us at seniorprogram@crosbyscholars.org to notify us that you attended and would like to earn Senior Academy credit. Because this is a WS/FCS event and not a Crosby Scholars event, we do not receive attendance information from the event. Remember, parents/guardians cannot earn Senior Academy credit for their student.

Crosby Scholars Financial Aid Help

Tonight! Researching Scholarships & Resources (Webinar)

Earning scholarship dollars can help cover the cost of college! Universities, non-profit organizations, private foundations, and individuals offer students the opportunity to compete for scholarships based on merit, academic major, and other criteria. This Senior Academy will help students to search for and recognize legitimate funding sources! Registration is required in the Crosby Scholars Portal.

Friday! Creating Your FSA ID Labs (In-Person)

Creating your Federal Student Aid (FSA) ID is the first step toward completing the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) and accessing state and federal financial aid for college! Join us in-person to receive help creating your FSA ID so that you can be prepared for the FAFSA to open in December! Registration is required in the Crosby Scholars Portal.

Adulting 101 + On-Demand Senior Academies

You Can Watch Adulting 101 Now!

Did you miss Adulting 101 last night? That's okay! There's an On-Demand Recording available now that you watch on your own time. Earn Senior Academy credit in just one hour!

Adulting 101

Adulting is both exciting and challenging. Watch the On-Demand recording of Adulting 101 to learn strategies for success as you approach life as a young adult!

Topics include stress management, a "Reality Check" exercise, and tips for good growing. This Senior Academy option is great for anyone, no matter where you are in your personal journey!

All options are available to you in the Crosby Scholars Portal (look for the post "Senior Academy Option | On-Demand Webinar Recordings") or you can review the options below.

To complete an On-Demand Senior Academy:

Review your choices of On-Demand Senior Academies & select which one is best for you.
Watch the On-Demand Webinar Recording of the Senior Academy you choose.
Complete the required Exit Survey (presented in the on-demand recording).

Apply Now! Crosby Scholarships Are Open!

Crosby Scholarships are officially open for the Class of 2024!

We have over 30 scholarship opportunities that are available only to Crosby Scholars Seniors! Because our scholarships aren't available to everyone, you are only competing with other Crosby Scholars in your graduating class!

Community Service Opportunity

Saturday! Join Us Virtually for Service with SPARK!

When: Saturday, November 11th (Veteran's Day)

Time: 9:30 AM-11:30 AM

Location: Virtual Via Zoom, students must register to receive the link - the link will be emailed on Friday, November 10th

What: Crosby Scholars and SPARK will team up again on Saturday, November 11th (Veterans Day) to offer two hours of service in a creative way via Zoom. Students will hear from retired Command Sergeant Major Alex Nelson, as well as write letters to Veterans at a local Veterans Home, along with letters to active duty soldiers serving locally and abroad. Students will follow prompts for writing their letters. They will have the space to express gratitude and encouragement from their heart. Students will create art that will be included on a mobile mural that will stand at different locations in the Piedmont Triad serving Veterans.

Senior Program Expectations

Class of 2024 Crosby Scholars should...

Attend one (1) Senior Academy (now through December 1, 2023).
Complete the College Fair/Visit requirement (due December 1, 2023).
Complete five (5) hours of Community Service (due January 31, 2024).
Meet with your Crosby Scholars Advisor.

And continue to...

Agree to random drug-screening through the It’s My Call Program.
Fulfill terms of the Partnership Agreement, including avoiding out of school suspension.
Maintain enrollment in a Forsyth County public school or partnering charter school.
Maintain a cumulative weighted GPA of 2.0 or higher to be eligible to apply for Last Dollar Grant funding in the Senior Year.

The Senior Year Roadmap is our vision for the flow of Senior Year - beginning with Junior Spring - and the ways in which the Crosby Scholars Program will support you.
