Dogs are welcome at The Crinan Hotel!

Well behaved dogs have always been made welcome at the Crinan Hotel.

There is a great range of options for walks in the Crinan area - you might like a gentle amble along the Canal towpath which is undemanding, a stroll through the woods or for more energetic dogs and their owners, there are hills to climb which give access to panoramic views over the Sound of Jura and the surrounding countryside and there are many marked trails through the local forests - there is more information on the Walking at Crinan page on the Crinan Hotel website.

More details about bringing your dog to the hotel can be found on our website.

Note to those who may suffer from allergies to dogs - we only allocate some of our rooms to dog owners so you can be confident that we do have rooms which dogs never stay in - please be sure to advise our reception staff when making your booking so we can allocate a suitable room for you.

Trips on the Waverley

A misty October 2nd 1946 saw the last paddle steamer to be built for Clyde services named Waverley and launched by Lady Matthews, wife of the LNER Chairman.

By 1973 Waverley was the last seagoing paddle steamer in the world. For that year only she was operated as part of the fleet of Caledonian MacBrayne offering a variety of Clyde cruises and ferry duties until it was announced she would be withdrawn from service at the end of September after which her future would become uncertain.

On August 8, 1974 Waverley was gifted for £1 and officially handed over to Waverley Steam Navigation Co. Ltd., a company formed by the Paddle Steamer Preservation Society.

Nearly 50 years later in 2023, Waverley undertook her most ambitious season in more than a decade with over 60 ports and piers visited including two new calling points – Warrenpoint and Shoreham. Waverley returned to the Bristol Channel after a 5 year absence and called at several ports which haven’t been on the sailing programme for decades including Craignure, Troon, Portishead, Tenby, Ryde and Ipswich.

And now nearly 80 years after her launch, the Waverley is still very much in action and ready to take you to sea in style!

Walking from the Crinan Hotel

Crinan is an excellent base for walkers looking to explore the canal and the hills around the area, and it gives great access to the rest of Argyll.

Whether your preference is a short walk along the banks of the canal, a brisk walk up the local hills to view the breath-taking views out over the lochs and islands, or a serious morning's walk with a rewarding lunch at the end - then Crinan is the answer.

There is more information about walking from Crinan on the hotel website.
