A blue-bell springs upon the ledge, A lark sits singing in the hedge; Sweet perfumes scent the balmy air, And life is brimming everywhere. -- e.e. cummings

HAPPY MAY FROM EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR DINAH MINOT

May is the turning point.

The nearness of the sea stretches far and wide on breezy spring days. It’s an extraordinary time of year for Mother Earth in Maine. It’s also a particularly expressive and creative time here in Portland.

Our 7th juried art exhibition, Time & Temperature, will open to the public this First Friday, May 3rd in the Creative Portland Gallery, featuring 16 artists, a combination of emerging and established artists. Special thanks to our jurors Maile Buker, C.J. Opperthauser, Sadie Bliss, Posey Moulton, Ebenezer Akakpo and Holly Taylor. Open to the public Monday - Thursday each week, as well as First Fridays, please feel free to stop by Creative Portland at 84 Free Street from 10-4pm (only til 2pm on Wednesdays) to browse, enjoy, and hopefully buy local art.

We are excited to share original local events all month long on our Creative Portland app and website. Summer season kicks off with Taiko Maine Dojo and Ideal Maine Social Aid Sanctuary Band at Congress Square Park, Childish at SPACE, PSO’s Carnival of Animals at Merrill, and Portland Ovations & Indigo Arts Alliance's DBR ECHOES at Abyssinian House are among our recommended May highlights. Click on any of the event images below for more details.
