COMPREHENSIVE PLAN UPDATE

Join Us for the Comprehensive Plan Update Open House on October 19

As the city prepares to update its Comprehensive Plan, the Covington Planning Commission invites residents, business owners, and other community members to join them for an opportunity to share ideas, concerns, and priorities regarding the growth and future of our community.

WHAT: Comprehensive Plan 2024-2044 Update Open House

WHEN: October 19 at 6:30 p.m.

WHERE: (Held both in-person and virtual)

               In-Person:

               Covington City Hall Council Chambers

               16720 SE 271st St. Suite 100

               Covington, WA 98042

               Virtual:

               https://us02web.zoom.us/j/88314914630

The Comprehensive Plan creates the foundation for citywide policies that capture the community’s vision and guides the city’s approach to growth and development over a 20-year planning period. The requirement to have a 20-year comprehensive plan is established at the state, regional, and county levels.

The open house will allow members of the community to get involved in the process, and gain insights into what a comprehensive plan is and the legislative regulations that guide it. It will provide an opportunity to provide input and feedback to the city and to help build the blueprint for the city’s future.

Please join us along with your neighbors and other community members as we move forward on the path towards building “Covington 2044: A Thriving Community for All.”

Visit the city’s Comprehensive Plan Update webpage at www.covingtonwa.gov/letstalk/compplanupdate to learn more and to register for the October 19 open house.

SAVE THE DATE: Covington's Tree Lighting Event is December 2

Before you know it, winter will be knocking on the door! We are preparing to hold our annual Tree Lighting event on Saturday, Dec. 2 at 4 p.m. We will gather in the triangle parking lot next to Fred Meyer for a perfect view of the tree.

Rain, snow or shine, you will have fun visiting activity booths from making ornaments and snowflakes to decorating cookies. Frozen characters (like Elsa and Olaf!) will be on hand to stir up some fun as well as musical entertainment and more. Snag some free hot cocoa or cider from the Covington Kiwanis Club before the countdown begins and help us light up the tree before Santa rolls in on his favorite ride - a Puget Sound Fire Authority Fire Truck!

We would like to send a special thank you to our host Fred Meyer and our sponsors that help keep this event free and fun! We can't wait to see you and celebrate the season!

Let's Talk Covington: Bring a Council Member to Your Business or Neighborhood

What better way to engage in conversation about what is important in Covington than to meet with city council members?

Your city council members would love to join you, your neighbors, local businesses and organizations to have conversations and talk about what is important to you. Public input is the foundation of everything we do at the city, so please reach out and help start the conversation.

If you, your neighborhood or your business would like to host a council member, please reach out! You supply the folks and location and we will send a council member to you! Think your neighbors would join you in the driveway for a gathering with a council member? Maybe your business has a happy hour that a council member could attend? Or, does your HOA have a get together that you'd like a council member to attend?

Please email kbates@covingtonwa.gov to arrange to host a council member. We will work with you on available dates and planning and will provide refreshments!

New Kiosk Installed in City Hall Lobby to Assist With Online Needs

So much of our communication and reporting happens online or virtually these days. While it does speed up processes and usually makes things more convenient, there are still instances where people may not be able to access online city portals or websites. We also have many residents who come to city hall for in-person assistance with reporting, permitting, accessing records, or who need general support.

Recently, we placed a kiosk in our city hall lobby for people who need to conduct city business but do not have access to online resources, or for walk-in customers. The kiosk will allow users to access city websites and portals for the following:

  • Reporting a problem through Covington Connects
  • Looking up a permit status
  • Emailing (via their personal account) our planning division, permit services division, or other city staff with questions or to set up an appointment for a meeting
  • Submitting a public records request
  • And more!

Satisfy your curiosity about what is going on around Covington by viewing our online development activity map. Current developments progressing in the permitting process will appear shaded on the map, showing their location in the city.

Users can also click on the map to get the project name and then can go over to the listing to find out more information such as a description, address, status and link to the permitting portal. View the map online by clicking here.
