Residents in and around Covington know that we are one of the coolest cities in America. Arguably, as I pointed out in this interview, we are one of the coolest cities in the World: Vienna - Paris - Covington. We also work very hard to keep this a secret.

Southern Living Magazine recently ranked Covington as the 16th Best Small Town in America. That's cool.

There are things government can do to improve the quality of life of our residents. However, many of our needs are met by wonderful organizations that provide services directly to those in need. Supporting those organizations is something our community does very well. The Quack-a-Falaya Rubber Duck Race in the Bogue Falaya River is one way to support some of our most important non-profits:

Sign Litter
on our Right of Ways
As employees in Public Works know, I despise signs on electric poles and yard signs illegally placed on our Right Of Ways (especially out of town businesses). Basically, I view them as litter.

What you may not know is I love $2.00 bills. I find them to be far more useful and efficient than $1.00 bills. Recently I combined my distaste for the signs with my affection for $2.00 bills.
It turns out that by taping $2.00 bills to the backs of the signs, they become far more visible to the human eye. Within 24 hours of doing so (and notifying city employees I had done so), virtually every illegal sign on our city Right of Ways had been removed! It's nice when one has a plan ... and the plan works : )
Columbia Steet Landing

Being the northernmost port north of Lake Ponchartrain, farmers from St. Tammany Parish, Washington Parish and Mississippi brought their crops to Covington, selling them for shipment to New Orleans. Sidenote: When the above picture was taken, our river port was already about 85 years old.

Today, that same property is a lovely little park nestled along the shoreline ... and home to the Sunset at the Landing Concert Series : )
