Notice to the Profession and Public: Court of Appeal Edmonton Operations for the Week of Jan. 16, 2023
Further to the Jan. 4, 2023 announcement regarding Court of Appeal operations, partial power has been restored to the South Tower of the Edmonton Law Courts.
Hearings:
All Court of Appeal three-judge panel hearings in Edmonton will proceed in person as scheduled. All single judge matters will continue to be heard electronically in accordance with the April 20, 2022 Notice to the Profession and Public.
Filing:
Registry counters in Edmonton remain closed. Documents can continue to be filed electronically via The Court of Appeal Management System. Documents will be reviewed and processed in the usual course.
Litigants who have an e-filing exemption are encouraged to file their documents by email or fax. Where that is not possible, documents can be deposited in the Court of Appeal drop-off box located past security at the east entrance on 97th Street. Registry staff will collect the documents throughout the day and file them when time permits. Documents will be backdated to the date of receipt providing they comply with the Rules. A contact name, email address and telephone number must be noted on the documents. The Registry will notify filing parties by phone or email when the documents are ready to be picked up or if deficiencies need to be corrected.
Search requests should also be left in the Court of Appeal drop-off box. The Registry will contact the requesting party by phone or email to make payment arrangements.
Calgary Operations:
Calgary operations are unaffected. The Registry counter in Calgary remains open, and hearings in Calgary will proceed as scheduled.
