The first 10 registrants will receive a DISCOUNTED RATE of $300 off! This course is taught by an instructor in person who holds a CISSP designation and has practical application in all of the domains. The instructor has taught the class at UMW previously and is ISC² certified.
The UMW CISSP training course offers a thorough review of the (ISC)² Body of Knowledge (BoK). This BoK covers eight domains designed to help participants to design, engineer, and manage an organization’s overall approach to security. Throughout the course, participants will have the opportunity to read, discuss, and complete exercises that will help them to identify which areas they are sufficient in, and which they still need to improve upon, prior to the exam.

Behavior Management: Systems, Classrooms, & Individuals in the Elementary Classroom

This course is designed for elementary general and special educators in the elementary school setting. Over several sessions, participants will discuss evidence-based strategies for setting up the classroom environment and working with individual students. Topics will include developing procedures, rules, and consequences in the classroom and understanding functional analysis and replacement behaviors for individuals. Additional management strategies will be discussed and shared, including relationship building, conflict resolution, and crisis planning. Participants will engage in activities and discussion and complete the session with a resource folder for behavior management.

Managing the Secondary Classroom

This course is designed for general and special educators in the middle and high school setting. Over several sessions, participants will discuss evidence-based strategies for setting up the classroom environment, creating grade-appropriate procedures and rules, delivering explicit instructions, and engaging with individual students and families. Other topics include: positive reinforcement, hierarchy of consequences, relationship building, and teacher well-being. Participants will engage in synchronous and asynchronous activities and design a classroom management plan.

This course is specially tailored for teachers and others in the education field who wish to work on their ability to communicate with Spanish-speaking students and their families. The course will focus on relevant vocabulary and structures related to communication in the classroom and the school setting, as well as cultural information significant to better understand the Latino community. Classes will offer ample opportunities for communicative practice to reinforce the vocabulary and structures studied in class.
Spanish level requirement: No previous Spanish experience needed. This course is designed for teachers and others in the education field who are interested in learning basic Spanish to communicate with Spanish-speaking students and their families.

Introduction to American Sign Language Workshop

This introductory course will cover the fundamentals of American Sign Language over a 10-week period. Focus will be placed on developing expressive and receptive skills and learning basic vocabulary and grammatical structures. Topics covered include the manual alphabet, sign articulation and smooth transitioning, and common words and phrases for conversation.
