In The Love Dare Devotional, Stephen and Alex Kendrick (2009) remind us that love is the key to a successful marriage. I am always surprised by the number of couples who are together but report that they don't love each other. Marriage cannot survive when love is not the foundation. When the foundation is romantic feelings, sexual satisfaction, financial stability, impressing others (wearing the white dress), fear of being alone, marriage will not survive. None of these things will get you through the storms of life. Only true love will endure. I Corinthians 13:13 tells us, "Now these three remain: faith, hope, and love. But, the greatest of these is love.
When marriages fall apart, some couples say it was due to irreconcilable differences, but there is nothing irreconcilable in the face of true love. I concur with the Kendricks (2009), that love is a master at reconciliation! When you are in love, you apologize when you are wrong, you forgive when your spouse is wrong, and you forgive over and over and over again.
We pray that this LoveNote finds you "...rooted and grounded in love..." (Ephesians 3:17) ...true love...and preparing to enjoy the best Valentine's Day ever!
Remembering our February 2012 Valentine's Article in the INDY:
I've been with my husband fourteen years. We've been married for twelve of these years. We have this magical love that I'm compelled to write about. By day, I am "the professional"- I teach adults and children in different capacities. I'm a leader; I'm a regulator who is mostly black and white, by the book, straight-laced. I'm "forty- something". I was born "forty-something". I was grown and serious as a small child.
But ...I'm a giddy, love-struck teenager when I get home from work each day. When I pull into the garage, sometimes I leave my purse, my portfolio, my coffee cup, everything in the car and run into the house to see my husband- to kiss him, to look into his eyes, breath his air, for one minute... to feel his strong embrace. Once my soul is steadied, we laugh together about how silly I am, how silly it is that I always do this. Then, I go back to the car and gather my things. When I get back in the house, I start fixing our dinner. During dinner preparation, I take lots of breaks and sit very close to him on the couch, he would say almost on him, while he watches television. We share lots of kisses during commercials. When dinner is ready, we pray then eat together, and study together (because we are both in school). Sometimes during our study breaks, I'll ask him to dance. He laughs...because he brings out the teenager in me. - Paula S. and Sherman Newman - Durham

Scripture to Ponder/Discuss
- Live happily with the woman you love through all the meaningless days of life that God has given you under the sun. The wife God gives you is your reward for all your earthly toil. (Ecclesiastes 9:9, NLT)
- In the same way, you husbands must give honor to your wives. Treat your wife with understanding as you live together. She may be weaker than you are but she is your equal partner in God's gift of new life. Treat her as you should so your prayers will not be hindered. (1 Peter 3:7, NLT)
- Take delight in the Lord and He will give you your heart's desires. (Psalm 37:4, NLT)
- Likewise, wives, be subject to your own husbands, so that even if some do not obey the word, they may be won without a word by the conduct of their wives, 2 when they see your respectful and pure conduct. 3 Do not let your adorning be external-the braiding of hair and the putting on of gold jewelry, or the clothing you wear- 4 but let your adorning be the hidden person of the heart with the imperishable beauty of a gentle and quiet spirit, which in God's sight is very precious. 5 For this is how the holy women who hoped in God used to adorn themselves, by submitting to their own husbands, 6 as Sarah obeyed Abraham, calling him lord. And you are her children, if you do good and do not fear anything that is frightening. (1 Peter 3: 1-6, ESV)
- Strength and dignity are her clothing, and she laughs at the time to come.26 She opens her mouth with wisdom, and the teaching of kindness is on her tongue 27 She looks well to the ways of her household and does not eat the bread of idleness.28 Her children rise up and call her blessed; her husband also, and he praises her: 29 "Many women have done excellently, but you surpass them all." 30 Charm is deceitful, and beauty is vain, but a woman who fears the Lord is to be praised.31 Give her of the fruit of her hands, and let her works praise her in the gates. (Proverbs 31: 25-31, ESV)
