Implementing Our Community Vision
With the UGB adoption process moving forward, the Planning Team is starting to turn our focus to how we implement the community vision within our new UGB. Urban design (the look and feel of our streets and buildings) plays an important role in quality of life in Eugene.
The recently published Community Design Handbook is an example of how we are trying to support implementation of our community vision. The goals of the handbook are to:

  1. Inspire: The handbook clearly sets forth the community’s expectations for quality and best practices of future development in Eugene.

  2. Educate and Communicate: The visual, easy-to-use format provides a reference for conversations about design between neighbors, developers, policy makers, business owners, staff, and others.

  3. Invest: Some elements of the handbook may be appropriate to reference or adapt as criteria for making public investments in projects or partnerships.

The handbook was developed through collaboration among local architects, developers, urban designers and the City of Eugene's own Urban Design Studio
