Dear Friends and Neighbors,
As we move into February 2024, we will enjoy the uncommon occurrence of that extra day, February 29th. Five million people around the world will be able to celebrate their birthday on the actual day this year. “Happy birthday leap year babies!"
February is filled with events and learning opportunities, which are detailed in this month's newsletter.
- I invite you to celebrate Black History throughout the month with a community celebration, the opening of the film "Bob Marley: One Love" and an oratorical contest for students.
- I'm honored to serve as a judge for "Youth of the Year," awarded by our Boys and Girls Clubs of Napa Valley. Join me on the evening of February 7th, to meet the nominees and be a part of the awards ceremony.
- As a member of the Napa Opioid Safety Coalition, I encourage you to attend a February 10th workshop featuring journalist Ben Westhoff, who will discuss the fentanyl poisoning crisis.
You will also find updates on recent actions of the Board of Supervisors, appointments of community members to County boards and commissions and exciting news of Senator Dodd's recent work which moves Napa County a step closer to the purchase of Skyline Park!
As always, it is my pleasure to serve you. Please feel free to reach out to me and/or my Board Aide Yazmin Dominguez at (707) 299-1354; joelle.gallagher@countyofnapa.org; and yazmin.dominguez@countyofnapa.org with any County-related issue, concern or ideas.
Sincerely,

County Updates
Skyline Wilderness Park
Senator Bill Dodd has introduced legislation to allow the state of California to sell land at Napa State Hospital known as Camp Coombs to the County of Napa for inclusion in Skyline Wilderness Park. The 80-acre Camp Coombs property would also be authorized for sale to the County for public parkland and open space. In 2019, Sen. Dodd passed a bill to allow it to be sold to the county. That transfer is expected to happen in the coming months. This is exciting news for those who have been discussing this issue for years.
