The Avenue Concept, founded in 2012 and located in Providence, Rhode Island, enthuses, promotes and supports public art in the urban environment with an abundance of murals, sculptures, programs and other spaces. In its time, The Avenue Concept has brought 170 art installations to Rhode Island; has supported 150 local and regional artists; and has raised $1,450,000 for public art. This impressive and admirable service is ever important during a pandemic. In September a new mural, by Garden of Journey, will be painted on the back of 94 Washington St. “Her design for the new mural will explore a theme of creative energy versus destructive energy, featuring two imaginary figures who serve as yin and yang. It is based in Afrofuturism, a cultural aesthetic and philosophy that explores the African-American experience and African diaspora through science-fiction and fantasy.” The Avenue Concept’s “home base” is located at 304 Lockwood Street, Providence, Rhode Island. For more information and maps of all the public art, visit theavenueconcept.org.

ArtsWorcester presents Madge Evers: The New Herbarium through September 19, exploring the anatomy of mushroom spores, cultivated for the project, “Evers catches the spores and their pigment as they land on paper, filtering them with other plant materials and manipulating their powdery traces.” Evers’s investigation into the microscopic world blurs what we know of mushrooms and the anatomy of the fungus kingdom. This exhibition is on view in the East Gallery. ArtsWorcester is located at 44 Portland Street, Worcester, Massachusetts. The gallery is open Thursday–Sunday from 12–5 p.m. There will be a public reception for the exhibition on Thursday, September 2, 6–9 p.m. For more information, visit artsworcester.com.

Hall Art Foundation presents Time Travelers and Portals, the bold, geometric sculptures of Vermont artist Clark Derbes from August 28 through November 28 in their Reading, Vermont, location. Derbes unique and meticulous process utilizes a chainsaw as an art tool: “Derbes first cuts blocks of wood from a variety of tree species, including elm, poplar and maple. Continuing to carve each block into a unique and dynamic shape, he meticulously chisels, paints, sands and burnishes each piece in order to achieve a variety of complex geometric visual systems, planes, patterns and patinas.” Hall Art Foundation – partnered with Schloss Derneburg Museum in Derneburg, Germany; Massachusetts Museum of Contemporary Art in North Adams, Massachusetts; Alexander W. Dreyfoos School of the Arts, West Palm Beach, Florida — “makes available postwar and contemporary art works from its own collection and that of Andrew and Christine Hall for the enjoyment and education of the public." Hall Art Foundation is located at 544 VT Route 106, Reading, Vermont. For more information, visit hallartfoundation.org.

Participate in MONOTHON2021, the marathon of monotype printmaking, Tuesday, September 21st to Saturday, October 16th. Support CCP with your participation while you work with friends and colleagues during the printmaking sessions.
MONOTHON2021 provides the opportunity for artists to work with a Master Printer in an art-intensive, five-hour session to create original monotypes. Each MONOTHON artist is assisted by a Master Printer during a private or semi-private session in one of CCP’s three studios. All materials are provided; artists may create up to ten prints during each session.
At the end of a session, one print from each artist is selected for CCP’s Online Auction. The artist retains their remaining prints. Prints chosen for exhibition and sale become the property of CCP. The selected print from each artist will be on display in CCP’s Grace Ross Shanley Gallery during the Auction Preview and then for sale during the Online Auction. All proceeds from MONOTHON2021 (printing sessions and auction) support CCP's programs and activities.
