STATEMENT ON ADULT SURVIVORS ACT
The Adult Survivors Act passed the legislature and was signed into law by Governor Kathy Hochul today. Assemblymember Rodneyse Bichotte Hermelyn issued the following statement:

"As a victim of sexual abuse and a cosponsor of the Adult Survivors Act, I am relieved that survivors of sexual abuse can, at last, seek justice in the court room. I commend the lead sponsor, Assemblymember Linda Rosenthal, my colleagues, Safe Horizon, and many more for listening to our cries."
STATE GOVERNMENT

  • The governor signed the Adult Survivors Act into law today. The act empowers survivors of sexual abuses that occurred when they were over age 18, to file suit regardless of when the abuse occurred. The lookback window begins six moths from signing. Read more here.
  • Rep. Antonio Delgado will officially be sworn in as lieutenant governor tomorrow, May 25. Read more here.
  • The governor announced a $2 billion increase in child care financial assistance and provider wages. Read more here.
  • An $118 million affordable housing development has started construction in the Brooklyn neighborhood of Brownsville.
  • This will offer 174 affordable apartments, including 87 with supportive services. Read more here.
CITY GOVERNMENT

  • Mayor Adams signed an Emergency Executive Order declaring a shortage of supply in infant formula in New York City. The Order will empower the city’s Department of Consumer and Worker Protection to prevent price gouging for formula. Read more here.
  • After a shooting on the Q train killed a man over the weekend, Mayor Adams rode the subway and advocated for the installation of gun scanners at Port Authority to stop the flow of guns into the City from out of state. Read more here.
  • Nine public housing developments across Brooklyn have been completed, local and federal officials announced Friday. The repairs cost over $400 million and seek to improve quality of life for 6,000 New Yorkers.
  • The repairs are part of the Permanent Affordability Commitment Together (PACT) program. Read more here.
  • Mayor Adams and Governor Hochul announced the launch of a “New” New York blue-ribbon panel to examine the future of New York City and the region’s economy.
  • The initiative builds upon Governor Hochul’s 2022 State of the State agenda and fiscal year 2023 New York State budget. Read more here.

  • Deputy Director, Dr. Jennifer McQuiston, of the Division of High Consequence Pathogens and Pathology within the CDC’s National Center for Emerging and Zoonotic Infectious Diseases announced that the United States plans to release the monkeypox vaccine.
  • There are currently over 1,000 doses available. Read more here.

The NYC Small Business Resource Network is a unique private/public partnership that provides our local businesses with the free, personalized guidance they need right now to survive the pandemic. If you have a small business, you can sign up for this network today.

Once you fill out the brief intake form, you will be matched with a business support specialist. Through this program, all five borough Chambers of Commerce have specialists offering one-on-one support to businesses in their boroughs.
 
The program is funded by a $2.8 million grant from the New York City-based Peter G. Peterson Foundation and supported by in-kind contributions from other partners, this collaboration, led by the Partnership for New York City, the NYC Economic Development Corporation and all five Chambers of Commerce, leverages the city’s corporate, financial and professional services sectors, as well as universities, philanthropies and expert volunteers to help small business owners gain access to a range of programs and services.
